Debut Author Covers Life Cycle of Black Swallowtail Butterfly in Inspiring New Children’s Book

In her thrilling new children’s book The Caterpillars that Grew… and Grew … and Grew, debut author and illustrator Robin Murray follows the three-year old Maddison as she explores the world through her magical magnifying glass and learns all about the amazing life cycle of the Black Swallowtail Butterfly.

When the Black Swallowtail Butterfly makes its debut each spring, seeking out colorful flowers for nectar, Maddison is able to identify it from its unique wing shape and distinctive black, yellow and cornflower blue markings. After the butterfly lays its eggs on dill, parsley, fennel or carrots, they can see a little caterpillar munch its way out of the egg and start eating. Finally, the caterpillar stops eating and find a place to spin its chrysalis, its cocoon.

And there it rests quietly, hanging by a little silk thread. Several weeks later, an amazing thing happens to Maddison’s surprise. Really close to the chrysalis, she glimpses a little head will poke out and the butterfly come into the world. Still wet, she watches as the new butterfly pumps fluid from its body into the veins of the crumpled wet wings. As the veins fill, the wings expand. Soon, a lovely butterfly stretches its black wings open and shut, practicing for its maiden voyage into the sky as wide-eyed Maddison is filled with awe and wonder about this miraculous transformation.

From egg to growing caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly, Maddison and Mimi, her grandmother, take readers of all ages on a delightful adventure and teach youngsters all about plants to best attract butterflies as well as host plants best suited for feeding hungry growing caterpillars. By releasing each beautiful butterfly, they make the world a more beautiful place for all mankind. Realize the importance of preserving and protecting one of God’s most tiny, beautiful creatures and learn about the ways to preserve the butterfly’s as well as the larva’s natural habitats today in Murray’s entertaining and inspirational book The Caterpillars that Grew … and Grew … and Grew, a window that inspires children and adults to ask questions, explore and learn all about a very popular and beautiful species of butterfly that lives in the southeastern part of our country.

Students can begin the IB programme from a young age. For those interested in starting right at the beginning, ICS offers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP). Teachers reinforce the attributes of the IB Learner Profile: to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers and to be knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced and reflective.

The IB curriculum teaches your child to look beyond just knowledge. It encourages your child to be more than just another student in the classroom. The degree examines different ways of knowing – perception, emotion, language and reason – and different kinds of knowledge – scientific, artistic, mathematical and historical. It is usually a two-year programme, designed to equip students with academic and life skills. It is also recognised by the world’s leading universities. Increased Demand for International Baccalaureate Diploma in South Asia

The number of students from the countries of southern Asia that arrive in the United Kingdom for their schooling each year is on the rise. The increasing popularity of a British education and the increasing allure of private schooling in the United Kingdom has resulted in a significant rise in the number of students deciding to go to the country each year. Most of the students that choose to study in the United Kingdom are from either China, South Korea, Taiwan or Japan.

Increased Demand for International Baccalaureate Diploma in South Asia<br />

A recent survey of private schools in the United Kingdom indicates that Chinese students form the largest international groups in most boarding schools. There are over 50 schools across China that now offer courses designed by the International Baccalaureate Organisation. “I went to a well-reputed IB school in Beijing, where I completed my Middle Years Programme. My parents had promised to send me to the United Kingdom in order to complete my schooling and continue my further education there if I earned good grades. I kept my side of the bargain and my parents kept theirs. So, this September, I will be travelling to the United Kingdom in order to begin my IB diploma course at a private school in London”, says 16 year old Zhu Hiyang, with a bright smile on her face.

There are many students just like Zhu Hiyang who will be making a relatively easy transition from life in a Chinese school to life in a British private school this very year. Their host school will offer the strict IB curriculum that places high importance on the quality of teaching and the quality of the courses that are taught. Attaining an IB Diploma has become to schooling what obtaining an Oxford degree means at the university level. Most of the students who perform well at the IB diploma level find it much easier to cope with the rigorous demands of a university education in the United Kingdom.

Trends show that most students from South Asia which choose to move to the United Kingdom for their higher studies seek admission to an Independent school London. Admission to an IB Diploma Residential London school ensures that the students not only receive a world-class education, but they also get to live in one of the most cosmopolitan cities of the world.

IB Diploma, Truly Global!

What is the educational qualification that is accepted in over 138 countries and across all the reputed universities of the world? The only correct answer to this question is the IB Diploma. An IB Diploma in your educational resume ensures a favourable passage through most of the stringent conditions set by the University of your choice for your acceptance. Now you can study for your IB Diploma in London with the Geneva-based International Baccalaureate recognising London school International Community School for delivering the prestigious diploma from September this year

IB Diploma, Truly Global!

“I was very insistent that my children have a truly global education. That is why we decided against sending them to the local public school in York, though it is well-known for providing education of fairly good standards. But I wanted my children to have school diplomas that are head and shoulders above the rest”, says Peggy Thornton, a proud mother whose son is preparing to begin his IB Diploma next term. British parents are increasingly ensuring that their children reap the benefits of a quality private education. “But there is a new category of emerging parents who are globe-trotters themselves. So they want to ensure that if they have to get their children to move around with them, they should be in an education system which is offered in more countries. I think this has been a crucial factor in the popularity of the International Baccalaureate course”, says Rosie Harrow, a Surrey school administrator.

The International Baccalaureate organisation works out of Geneva and has an evolved curriculum that draws from the best practises of educational systems across the world. The course is structured in such a manner that every student passing the IB Diploma course is better prepared than students from other systems for the more challenging academic demands of the University. In fact, there are three IB courses that cater to students between the age group of 3 and 19, ensuring a holistic academic experience through their formative years. An international school London has to offer ensures that the student also gets a taste of metropolitan way of life. Besides, more importantly, an IB Diploma Central London ensures that a student aspiring to continue their University education has access to some of the leading London colleges under the University of London.

Finally it is Teacher Appreciation Week

“Teacher appreciation makes the world of education go around.” Helen Peters. Whether you are 8 or 18 years old, you live in South Korea or in Sweden, you are black or you are white. Everyone around the world has at least one teacher who has inspired them and motivated them to keep on going and never give up. The only thing we can give back is showing our appreciation for their work and effort. This appreciation makes teachers aware of what their efforts mean to us and keeps them doing the great things they do. Students from different country celebrate this in their own way, with their own and unique habits and on different dates.

Finally it is Teacher Appreciation Week

Today starts the week during which students of the US can express their gratefulness for what their teachers have taught them. Today starts the week where for once the teachers don’t give, but the students do. Today starts the week that entire classes work together to surprise their teachers. Today starts the week that makes teachers feel good about what they do. Today starts the week that makes the world of education go around. Today starts Teacher Appreciation Week.

Until May 7th, teachers will walk out of their homes with an even bigger smile on their face than usual. Because they now that this is the week that they get recognition for all the effort they put into this job. “Teachers appreciate being appreciated, for teacher appreciation is their highest award.” - William Prince. They work so hard by teaching us how to write, read and count. They treat us as their own children and from today on, we can show them that we treat them as our second parents. Although we give them headaches and make them upset all the time, there is one week to make it all up and make sure that they don’t forget why they do so much for us.

During this week and especially on Tuesday, everyone does their best to be as creative as possible and surprise their teachers with the most amazing and original ideas. On teacher appreciation info you can find a lot of initiatives that were done in the past and different tips. One tip is to keep in mind which teachers you are surprising. Try to know as much as possible about them and use this to create a present. In this way, your present means much more to those particular teachers and gets a personal touch. Your teachers are happy and so are you, because for once, you managed to give them something that means a lot and not the other way around.

Searches Increase for Healthcare Management Degrees on Emagister.net

The primary focus this year for most businesses including healthcare facilities is cost control. Business professionals holding Healthcare Management degrees are needed to help control costs, run cost efficient facilities, improve patient care and create profitable businesses. Additional variables such as looming healthcare reforms, aging baby boomers and the growing population all contribute to the need for highly educated professionals. Recent searches on emagister.net for healthcare management and Healthcare Administration degrees confirm the trend for increased job market opportunities available to those with the right skills and training.

Even with a slacking economy where most businesses have lost capital and job positions, the healthcare industry has managed to expand. The most successful healthcare managers are business oriented, natural leaders, well organized and most importantly sympathetic individuals with a desire to help people. Healthcare facilities recognize the need for skilled workers to fill these management roles and offer one of the most competitive salary rates on the market. The result is the rise in popularity for degrees specializing in healthcare management and administration. Emagister.net offers both on-campus and online degrees from Universities such as Kaplan University, Globe University and Ashford University who are benefitting from the current trend. Online degrees make earning your healthcare management degree more attainable than ever, especially for those individuals who for personal obligations such as family and work would otherwise be unable to complete their degree.

Emagister.net was launched in 2009 as an education resource for individuals looking to better themselves through education. Run by experts in the education industry, Emagister is currently serving 11 countries with 3 more planned launches in the second quarter of 2010. More Schools Adopt Co-Operative Trust Model

The growing acceptance that the co-operative model offers schools a compelling structure was further underlined when the latest tranche of co-operative trust schools was announced.

Fifteen new co-operative trust schools, which offer all stakeholders an opportunity to be involved in the running of their school, become legal entities today (1 April) bringing the total throughout the country to more than 50.

The new co-operative schools include a Leeds based federation of eight schools with another cluster in South Bristol. Individual school trusts are also being established in Stoke-on-Trent, Oldham, Bradford, High Wycombe and Peterborough.

Anyone with an interest in the school including students, teachers, parents, employers and the local community will be encouraged to become members of the Trust, making the trust a community based mutual.

The members will elect representatives to a school stakeholder forum, which will meet on a regular basis, in order to ensure that those in positions of responsibility remain sensitive to the needs, views and aspirations of the different groups.

This co-operative mutual model is based on open membership, equal democratic participation (one member, one vote) and clear accountability of those in charge to those for whom services are provided is very much in fashion at the present time.

Russell Gill, Head of Membership at The Co-operative Group, said: “The co-operative model, which is very much in vogue with the mainstream political parties, allows all stakeholders greater participation in the running of the school and our values, that date back more than 150 years, offer schools an ethos which we believe can lead to higher standards, aspirations and achievements.”

Local Sixth Formers Give A Lesson In Money Management

A group of economics students from St Aidan’s & St John Fisher’s Associated Sixth Form in Harrogate, took up a challenge thrown down by Yorkshire-based Engage Mutual to help improve local young children’s understanding of saving on Thursday 25 February.

The sixth formers developed and delivered a morning of fun and interactive lessons around saving and money to a Year Two pupil group comprising 73 delighted six and seven year olds, from Oatlands Infant School in Harrogate.

Head at Oatlands Infant School, Elizabeth Robson, commented:

“This project has been an exciting way of giving our children an introduction to the importance of saving and working with money- both vital life skills. It has been great for them to have this delivered by the Sixth Form students in such a fun and interesting manner.”

Part of a wider initiative to improve financial capability, the sixth formers have been improving their own money knowledge, having recently completed a course in their free time run by Engage Mutual at their offices. The course concludes with a challenge for the sixth formers to take an element of what they have learned and communicate it to a younger audience in a fun and interesting way.

Engage Mutual Chief Executive, Andrew Haigh said:

“Where better to start helping families and future generations secure their financial futures, than with children? Working with schools is an incredibly valuable and informative experience for us. We always learn a great deal from the clarity and simplicity that young people can bring to communicating quite complex financial issues.”

Safetyshop Reveal the Winning School of Their School Safety Sign Competition

Towards the end of 2009 Safetyshop, the UK’s number 1 safety sign manufacturer and supplier of over 30,000 safety solutions, launched a contest open to schools up and down the country to design a new safety sign aimed at school children.

The first prize was recently awarded to the EPRU unit located within the grounds of Whitefield Community Primary School, Manchester, closely followed by St John Fisher Catholic Primary School in Middlesex.

Safetyshop is delighted with the safety themes that developed from the competition. The best entries represented health and safety issues ranging from hand hygiene, playground safety, healthy eating to email and internet safety.

The Safetyshop panel, tasked with the difficult job of picking a school sign winner, commented “we were captivated at how creative some designs were and how students demonstrated the importance of safety within their school environment”

Prizes for the EPRU unit are:

• The chance to have their design digitally manufactured into a 300Hx400W mm safety awareness sign and then see it transformed into an interpretation of how the design could be manufactured into a prohibition safety sign
• £150 worth of vouchers to spend on health and safety equipment at Safetyshop
• 51 piece media mix art set
• WH Smith gift voucher
• 99 piece first response first aid kit
• Two “understanding safety signs” wall charts
• “First aid for children” wall chart

Safetyshop, still a British manufacturer of safety signs, is entering into its 40th year of trading and wanted to do something special to mark this achievement. One of Safetyshop’s core beliefs is that anyone who gets involved in health and safety practice is safer than those who don’t.

Safetyshop also believes that safety education at an early age can be developed into a safety culture that young people can carry forward into their working lives. A safety sign competition seemed like the logical opportunity to begin helping support young people think about and identify hazards in their school.

The Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) is currently campaigning to have a similar initiative included in the UK’s national curriculum and Safetyshop fully supports this young people’s campaign.

The World’s First Ever ‘Drowsy Driving’ Educational Handbook Published

People are finally being told the truth about the dangers of “drowsy driving”, largely thanks to the efforts of sleep safety researcher and campaigner Martin Jenkins.

Jenkins’s educational campaign has this week taken a major step forward with the World-wide publication of his drowsy driving handbook, AKILLA® “In the blink of an eye”, on Amazon Kindle.

Described by Jenkins as a “passport to survival”, In the blink of an eye presents readers with the facts on drowsy driving and what can and should be done to address this hazard to road users.

“In the blink of an eye” aims to fill the knowledge gap by telling you the must knows about ‘drowsy driving’, says Jenkins.

“It identifies the causes of drowsy driving – when, where and why you are most at risk to drowsy driving such as afternoon driving, after a plane flight or fast food or while on medication. It then tells you what are the best ways for you to avoid drowsy driving and the steps you can take to minimise your risk of being a drowsy driver.

“This book dispels some drowsy driving myths. It tells you what things won’t revive you when you are feeling drowsy.”

While drowsy driving has long been recognised in some countries as a major killer on the roads, it has been largely ignored or downplayed by transport authorities and policymakers.

The attitude of complacency and unwillingness to face up to the reality of drowsy driving prompted Jenkins to launch his campaign and to write the book to wake up all road-users to the dangers of drowsy driving and educate them on how to recognise and minimise drowsy driving risk factors.

Facts About Jesus’ Resurrection Lead Online Students to the Full Story

Understanding the Bible isn’t always easy. The language, the cultural references and the seemingly inconsistent accounts from book to book can all cause confusion for a student starting out on the path to enlightenment. Jesus’ resurrection proves that He was exactly who He said He was, yet much misunderstanding surrounds these events for students without the proper guide. The United Church of God hopes to clear up the confusion with its online study guide,“Jesus Christ: The Real Story.”

The free online guide, found at ucg.org, tackles many misconceptions and questions, including:

• When did Jesus die? – The chronology of Jesus’ resurrection and crucifixion becomes clear only when a student reads the four Gospels at the same time, and corroborates between them. Luke, Mark and John offer what seems to be conflicting information in their references to the Sabbath, but by understanding the differences between the different types of Sabbaths, you understand that Jesus died on Wednesday, which was just before a high-day Sabbath, and was resurrected on Saturday, at the end of the weekly Sabbath. The chronology of Jesus’ Resurrection and crucifixion are detailed in the study guide.

• Did Jesus’ enemies acknowledge that His tomb was empty? – Yes, they did, by creating a lie to discount Jesus’ Resurrection. The Bible tells us that they bribed the Roman soldiers who were responsible for guarding the sealed tomb, telling them to say that the disciples (who would become the founding members of Jesus’ Church) came and removed the body. The study guide points to an account in Matthew to help students understand the events surrounding Jesus’ Resurrection.

In addition to “Jesus Christ: The Real Story,” the United Church of God offers many other free study guides on its website. They include:

• What Did Jesus’ Church Believe and Practice? – The beginnings of Jesus’ Church are documented by eyewitness accounts in the book of Acts. This study guide reveals many overlooked truths.

• Modern Christianity’s Forgotten Roots – The practices of today’s Christian Church can vary greatly from Jesus’ Church – the original Church Christ built.

• Bible Study Tools: Twelve lessons make up this Bible Study Course, which helps its students find biblical answers to crucial questions such as “Why are we here?” and“What does the future hold?”

All study guides on the United Church of God’s website are free and available to all.

New Testament and 10 Commandments Help Believers Keep the Faith During Troubled Times

War. Natural disasters. Rampant crime. In a time of such unrest in the world, Christians should embrace the New Testament and its support of God’s law, not dismiss it as irrelevant. The United Church of God continues its mission of keeping these ideals alive and also bringing about better understanding of the New Covenant through the numerous free study guides found on its website at www.ucg.org.

Around one third of the New Testament contains quotations of and references to the Old Testament, including Jesus Christ’s direction in Matthew that the way to the Kingdom of Heaven was through obedience of the 10 Commandments. The New Testament also describes the fulfillment of many an Old Testament Prophecy, including through the life of Jesus Christ, from birth through crucifixion. The United Church of God offers the following study guides to the New Testament and New Covenant:

• The Ten Commandments in the New Testament – This guide helps students to see that it does matter whether or not they obey the 10 Commandments. By fully understanding that Jesus Christ supported God’s law and continued to preach its value, believers will see how the age-old road map to eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven helps those who follow it keep the faith.

• God’s Law and the New Covenant – This guide also looks at Jesus and His institution of the New Covenant and teaches that it did not make God’s law obsolete. By following God’s law, Christians can find a renewed faith in the Creator God.

In addition to the many resources on the New Testament and the New Covenant, ucg.org offers multiple free study guides on Prophecy that can help today’s believers see
more clearly God’s plan. The United Church of God suggests starting with:

• You Can Understand Bible Prophecy – The principles and framework of Bible Prophecy must first be known before any individual Prophecy can be understood. This guide unlocks the mysteries surrounding Prophecy.

By offering its study guides for free, online, the United Church of God hopes to help those who have lost their faith find it again.

IC School Promotes Healthy Habits With Their Walk On Wednesdays Initiative

The International Community School is one of the best known international school London has to offer. The institution has recently stepped out of the classroom with their new Walk on Wednesday program that involves all of their Primary Year students. The initiative seeks to promote healthy habits and to teach the important habits of keeping a regular exercise routine to avoid the health problems related to obesity.

IC School Promotes Healthy Habits With Their Walk On Wednesdays Initiative

Childhood obesity has grown to be a major problem in several western countries. Kids these days walk far less than the ones from the past generation and the statistics regarding obesity are shocking. Walking is one of the most accessible forms of exercise since almost anyone can do it. Thus taking daily walks can become the foundation from which children can learn a host of other healthy habits and learn to incorporate a proper diet and exercise in their lives.

Walk on Wednesday

The ICS has become a rather well-known independent school London because of its many projects that involve more than just regular classes. The institution has a host of activities that involves kids from all ages and that take the learning experience to new levels, both inside and outside of the classroom. The Walk on Wednesday project is a perfect example of these type of teaching methodology. The goal: to have kids exercise at least once a week and teach them the value of keeping a regular exercise regime. The implementation is simple – the school buses that usually take the children directly to the institution drop them off at the top of Regents Park instead. There the students are joined by a group of ICS teachers who then walk with them towards the school. Each student shares the activity with his or her friends and the journey is seen as an achievement that they make as a group.

Algae Educational Kit Will Grow On Schools

World of Algae.com announced today that they are weeks away from launching the Algae Educational Kit. This brand new hands-on Kit is packed with information and gadgets to grow algae.

“We have been getting increased interest from teachers, educators, and students about producing a guide for those who want to maintain algae cultures and carry out simple growth experiments. There seems to be detailed books for the more advanced student or worker, but very few books for inexperienced people. We hope the kit we have put together will bridge that gap”, said David Sieg, author of the Algae Educational Kit workbook.

The World of Algae website was launched in 2009 by Mr Sieg and Steve Ewings. “The Algae Educational Kit was developed for both the school and home market and it is part of our commitment to providing up to date information on the world of algae”, said Mr Ewings.

It is true that companies like Exxon and BP are investing $100s of millions in algae biofuel research and development. This new Kit may provide students with the opportunity to contextualise what is happening in this developing field.

The Algae Educational Kit includes everything to begin growing algae including: a CD containing the workbook and lesson plans; specially formulated algae nutrient; a digital temperature gauge; pH sticks; air stone; silicone air lines; gang valve; light clamp and 75 watt algae grow bulb; check valve and an air pump.

According to Steve Ewings, one of the founders of World of Algae, “Alga has the potential to radically change our lives… undoubtedly children of the future will see green pond slime through very different eyes, and our Kit aims to become part of that process.”

The Kit will be available towards the end of January 2010, and to avoid disappointment educators are invited to register their interest: http://www.world-of-algae.com/Algae-Education-Kit.html
