From paper textbooks to electronic scripts of lessons: the rapid path of Russian education to high technologies

MOSCOW, Russia, 2019-May-24 — /EPR  EDUCATION NEWS/ —  Any changes take time, and education reform all the more. This is a long and painstaking process with a lot of pitfalls. We are telling how the Moscow Department of Education managed to transform the educational system beyond recognition in a few years, turning it into one of the exemplary world models.

Just a few years ago, the backpack of an ordinary Russian school student was not easy to pick up — textbooks and additional materials in all subjects, exercise books, writing materials, and sports uniforms and shoes. Parents of pupils even in elementary school were perplexed how their children carry it to school every day.

Today the backpack of the Moscow school student has become twice as light. The fact is that now it’s not necessary for children to carry all paper textbooks with them. It is enough to have a tablet with you: all the training materials necessary for the lessons are digitized, stored in the cloud storage of the Moscow Electronic School and are always ready for use. The same is true of additional literature, works of art, and even tests: instead of leaflets or notebooks “for controls,” there are interactive tests on a tablet or in a laptop. In the same tablet or even on the phone, students can always see the lesson schedule, find out about new grades, or even do their homework.

But the most important thing that greatly facilitates the work of teachers is ready-made electronic scripts for lessons in all subjects. Work on creating a database of such multimedia scenarios has been going on for several years, since the launch of the MES program – the Moscow Electronic School. To date, the arsenal of Moscow teachers has more than 33,000 approved scenarios developed by professionals. These scenarios are in the electronic library of educational materials, and every Moscow teacher has access to it. Any teacher registered in the system can use these materials absolutely free of charge – it makes preparing for a lesson easier and more convenient. In this library you can find hundreds more textbooks prepared by other teachers, tens of thousands of comprehensive educational applications and even prototype laboratories on a number of subjects. So far, there are no analogues to such a resource anywhere in the world.

The work of Moscow teachers has also become much easier. First, all school teachers are provided with laptops or desktops. Each class has an interactive whiteboard and there are printers – if one of the students doesn’t have a tablet or laptop with him, all materials necessary for the lesson can be printed at any time.

Options such as an electronic diary and an electronic journal allow teachers to design a curriculum using various curricula, as well as create a class schedule, create their own author assignments, or use ready-made tests from an electronic library.

In general, thanks to the emergence of the Moscow e-school, parents, students and teachers received a unique system for all participants of the educational process. It is now convenient for teachers to communicate directly with parents of students through an electronic diary, so even parent meetings are now much faster and more fruitful. Parents from any device can always familiarize themselves with the success of the children, check what is set and warn the teacher that the child will miss classes on a given day.

School classes are another theme we want to dwell on. We have already said that all classes are equipped with interactive whiteboards – touch screen panels, which the teacher can use as traditional school blackboards, or show students selected photo and video materials, and even remotely visit the city’s museums! But this is not limited to this. Now classes of Moscow schools are becoming high-tech centers, workshops and laboratories. The project of introducing specialized and preprofessional classes has been implemented in the capital of Russia since 2015. Now students in Moscow schools can study in medical, engineering, natural science classes, fully immersed in the atmosphere of the profession already in grades 8-9.

All that we have listed – only the most impressive facts. In fact, the process is much broader and more interesting. The global goal of this Russian educational reform is to create a modern digital educational environment capable of quickly adapting to the ever-changing realities of life, ready for the emergence of new professions and specialties. You can learn more about the Moscow education reform at Bett Educar in Brazil. Virtual excursions in Moscow specialized classes and master classes devoted to the Moscow Electronic School project are waiting for visitors.

International Moscow Forum “City of Education” is one of the most significant events in the world of metropolitan education. The main objective of the forum is the exchange of experience in the development of various stages of the educational process, as well as the opportunity to demonstrate the latest educational technologies, resources and equipment. With all the latest innovations and advanced educational technologies will be available at the next forum “City of Education”, which will be held in Moscow from August 29 to September 1, 2019.

ASPIRA of PA Hosts Summer of Innovation Camp

ASPIRA, Inc. of Pennsylvania (ASPIRA of PA) was selected by Immaculata University to host a week-long Summer of Innovation (SOI) camp, from July 22nd – 26th. The camp is part of NASA’s nation-wide campaign aimed at engaging middle school students across the United States to share in the excitement of scientific discovery and space exploration through unique, NASA-related STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) opportunities. The SOI program seeks to leverage the expertise and reach of NASA’s 10 field centers, national academic and industry partners and smaller, non-traditional collaborators to keep students engaged in STEM activities during the summer school break.

The camp took place at Pantoja Charter (a K-8 bilingual charter school managed by ASPIRA of PA), and in addition to providing facility space, ASPIRA of PA also provided teachers and staff to help facilitate the camp. The teachers participating at the camp are also part of a development program hosted by NASA to improve Science/STEM instruction. Over 80, 4 th – 9 th grade students attended the camp, with 80% of students coming from schools managed by ASPIRA of PA. Throughout the camp, students learned about robotics, computer programming, aeronautics, and in a culminating event on the last day, they launched rockets that they built earlier in the week. Students and parents alike praised the camp, with the only complaint being that they wished it was longer. ASPIRA of PA is already beginning to make plans for next year’s SOI camp, with hopes of extending the length of the camp and offering it to more students.

Train Aid Ltd.’s Paediatric First Aid Training Set To Include Bonus Module

Train Aid Ltd has decided to launch an anaphylactic shock training course as a bonus on its 12 hour paediatric first aid courses. The move is set to take effect the Saturday July 13th, whereby the scheme will be piloted at the company’s open course in Selhurst (South London). The company is set to include the training on the 12 hour syllabus, which is good news for candidates as some of the bigger companies charge an extra fee.

Anaphylaxis otherwise known as anaphylactic shock is a condition whereby a person will suffer an extreme allergic reaction to a particular trigger. The reaction can be life threating as the condition has the potential to disable the respiratory system if left untreated. Anaphylactic shock training aims to teach learners how to spot the symptoms of the condition, and then moves on to showing them how to administer the lifesaving medication that is required to save someone.

The anaphylaxis module is often expected to last in duration from anywhere between 30 mins and two hours; however this can vary depending on the size of the class. The Early Years Foundation Stage actually reference the module on all 12 hour paediatric first aid courses, but their recommendation is that candidates take on extra training, in order to fully learn how to administer the lifesaving medication. This comes in the form of a universal safe syringe, and candidates get the opportunity to practice with a training device.

Train Aid’s Ellie Hayward was on hand to tell us why this is considered so important:

“It goes without saying that lives could be saved if there were more people trained in how to spot the signs and then treat anaphylaxis. Little ones are extra sensitive to the effects of the condition as they often haven’t discovered what they are allergic to yet, which means they would not have any adrenaline (medication) to save themselves.

Train Aid has reworked the 12 hour syllabus by including anaphylactic shock through an extra 30 minutes of training. This means that candidates do not have to take an extra day out of their busy schedules. Nannies and Child Minders may also benefit from the news that the company has frozen prices, which will effectively give child care workers two certificates for the price of one.

Training Provider Links With Lawn Specialist Company

Train Aid Ltd has formed a partnership with the London Lawn Turf Company (LLTC) in order to look out for all their Health & Safety needs. Train Aid will be running annual courses to ensure that all employees are up to date with their manual handling training. The company has always been at the forefront of safety, but has struggled to find a provider that could tailor courses around their individual business needs. Train Aid has stepped in to certify all company employees across their four depots in the South East of England.

LLTC are the largest supplier of lawn turf to the trade and retail sectors in the South East of England. They presently operate five depots, each of which houses a minimum of ten staff. The company distributes rolls of turf to a wide geographical audience using a combination of light and heavy goods vehicles. This in itself can sometimes prove dangerous and often requires complete concentration. Both first aid and manual handling skills are essential in the event of an accident.

Each depot can sometimes be required to manually lift hundreds of rolls of turf each day. For this reason manual handling training can prove hugely beneficial, and can help protect the overall health of all employees. Train Aid will be contracted to tailor its manual handling training course specifically around the needs of yard workers, who lift only one object (turf). This helps ensure that a strong practical relevance can be made between the training and the workplace, and could have a subsequent effect on the amount of injuries that are sustained.

Yards are notoriously hazardous environments, where there are a wide range of heavy, sharp and powerful objects. Standards within the industry are very high, whereby accidents rarely even occur. However the industry is still considered high risk, and things pop up time from time that requires the administration of treatment. This has resulted in Train Aid providing first aid training courses for all of the staff across the five depots. They are now all prepared and certified to step in and help in the event of an accident. A spokesman from the company summed up his feelings on the matter:

“We are generally pleased that all of our staff members are in the process of becoming fully certified in the field of Health & Safety. This has been a lengthy process, but we feel that it is more than worthwhile in the long run.

The partnership means that Train Aid will provide a series of refresher courses for all staff members at the expiration of their certificates.

Train Aid Set To Launch Paediatric First Aid Courses In North London

Train Aid Ltd is set to launch its popular range of paediatric first aid courses in a new Location within London. The new open course will be held in Highgate (North London) and will run alongside the ever popular Selhurst (South London) course. The first instalment of the new training course will start on Saturday March 2nd and finish on Saturday March 9th 2013. The training follows government guidelines and covers child workers to administer first aid treatment. This latest edition from Train Aid should enable more candidates to access affordable training. Currently many child workers living in North London have been cut off by long journey times and the associated costs.

The move has been partly initiated because of the overwhelming response of its South London equivalent. The training appears to be pitched at an affordable price that many nannies, nursery workers and carers feel they can afford. The course appears to sell out each week, and has received good reviews. The only negative is that some candidates have complained about having to make long journeys South of the River.

This latest open course could well enable more candidates to access Train Aid’s portfolio of paediatric first aid courses. Those who live in North London may now feel more suited to the training, and this could extend as far out as the Northern Home Counties. The knock on effect could be lower journey times, reduced costs and more free time for the thousands of childcare workers who live north of the river. The venue is accessible from any part of London, and even connects to London Bridge, which is a major transport hub for the capital.

This latest edition to the line-up will run over two consecutive weekends, starting on the first Saturday in March. Courses like these suit childcare workers who are busy at work during the week, and only get free time at the weekends. Weekday courses potentially restrict these workers, and can cause them to lose valuable holiday time. Train Aid’s Ellie Hayward was available to give her own thoughts on the matter:

“This latest move makes sense as I myself know that many people were travelling long distances to our courses. It seemed a bit unnecessary as the company also has a presence in North London. I am glad there is now a course running monthly in North London and expect it to prove as popular as the others”.

Overall this latest training edition should add competition to the marketplace, which should help consumers and lower their costs.

Train Aid Ltd Switches To New Government Approval Scheme

Train Aid Ltd are set to become an Ofqual registered training provider from April 2013. The move will apply to all first aid at work courses that the company runs throughout the UK. The new Ofqual registration concept will replace the old HSE approval scheme. The government have now favoured an Ofqual model, which should open up the market place, and allow greater flexibility for businesses enrolling their staff on first aid courses.

The HSE approval scheme ensured that a high standard of training was maintained throughout the industry. It forced companies to externally moderate their courses, and drove out incompetent companies / freelancers. It was however very costly to implement, which no doubt had a knock on effect to the consumer. The government recognised this through the Lord Lofsted report, which concluded that the HSE approval scheme should be removed in its entirety.

From April 2013 the UK business sector will be free to choose a trainer provider from the full spectrum of the marketplace. This should have the effect of opening up the marketplace to new providers, and will allow a greater level of flexibility. It will be down to consumers to select a training provider, who they feel can deliver a reputable course. If unsure they can refer to an Ofqual approved provider, which proves their training meets a recognised standard.

Many training providers are concerned that standards could actually end up falling within the industry. The problem lies in the fact that theoretically anyone can now provide first aid at work courses and claim the content to be reputable. More and more companies like Train aid are becoming Ofqual registered to prove that their training meets a certain standard. It looks like it will replicate and replace the old HSE approval scheme. Train Aid’s Bill Casserley was on hand to provide his view point:

“Everyone within the industry was understandably concerned when the review was published from Lord Loftsed. However after having some time to deliberate over the findings I think it all makes sense. The most important people within the industry are the consumers who are purchasing the courses. This new system gives them more flexibility and will ultimately save them more money”.

Train Aid Reveals New First Aid at Work Refresher Qualification

Train Aid Ltd is set to launch a newFirst Aid at Work Refresher course in February 2013. The new qualification is run over two days, and will be held at Train Aid’s HQ in Greenwich, London. The training centre is easily accessible from anywhere in London and the Home Counties. This latest qualification is aimed at people who have already completed a first aid at work course, and who need to update their certificate. They can avoid having to do a full three days training by enrolling on the two day refresher.

It looks like this could be a useful addition to the wide variety of training courses that Train Aid provides. It is particularly useful for those candidates who hold the full qualification as this version will condense that full course down into two manageable days. The course is designed around refreshing current skills because prior knowledge is part of the prerequisite to signing up. Candidates by its conclusion receive an HSE approved certificate, which is good for a three year period.

The only prerequisite to signing up is that delegates have completed the full three day qualification and that their certificate has not expired by more than 28 days. If this is the case they can save themselves a full days training by signing up. It looks like Train Aid has designed the course around the feedback from candidates. The courses initially may not reach capacity, but will help save client’s time and money. A spokesman from the company (Steve Faber) was on hand to tell us a little bit more:

“The introduction of this course makes sense as there is always a demand to condense training down into the shortest time frame possible. This is not because people are trying to avoid it, but more so that their time and ultimately money is very important”.

Businesses are also able to benefit from the First Aid at Work Refresher course. The business sector can save thousands of pounds just by keeping up with expiration dates on certificates. Quite often companies enrol their staff onto the full 3 day qualification only because they have allowed the current certificates to expire by more than 28 days. A stronger marketing campaign about the shorter qualification could prove beneficial to the UK business sector.

Manual Handling Training Courses Can Help Protect Profits

Train Aid Ltd has recently launched a new range of manual handling courses for businesses within the UK. The company started providing bespoke courses to the business sector last week, which proved very successful, and has subsequently led to the announcement that they will be rolled out to the market place in the New Year. Each year thousands of work days are lost due to people suffering injuries when moving objects. This type of training can help reduce the amount of days lost to injury, and the subsequent down turn in productivity.

Thirty eight per cent of all injuries that can cause a person to miss three days off work can be accredited to manual handling. This has led to over 1 million sufferers, whereby 12 million work days are lost, at an estimated cost of £5.7 billion to the economy. These startling statistics leave huge question marks as to whether or not enough preventive action is being taken.

Train Aid’s new course aims to highlight the risks involved, educate the workforce and reduce the amount of missed work days to business. The aim is to protect the health of employees, but at the same time also safeguard employers against medical based claims. Companies can avoid being held to ransom by individuals if they have provided staff with the appropriate level of training.

This latest announcement coincides with the recruitment of leading Health & Safety expert Joe Peter’s. He has been recruited in to sure up the whole manual handling trainingdepartment, and was even on hand to give an experts view on the matter:

“I witnessed nearly every type of work injury in my early days as a removal man. Ten years in the trade also saw me witness a lot of malpractice that sadly cut short the career of many good workers. When I switched to health & safety I realized the potential of constructive and thought out training. Many companies have reported back to me with positive feedback, and an overall downturn in the amount of revenue lost to injury”.

First Aid Courses Set To Be Opened Up To The Unemployed

Train Aid Ltd is set to offer free first aid training courses to members of the London community. This new scheme will be held on an outside setting on Clapham common starting next spring. The idea behind the concept is to try and reach out to the millions of people who have never been on such training. The recession has hit hard and many people cannot afford luxuries such as extra-curricular courses. The hope is that hosting practical led courses in an outside setting will also reach out to people who would previously have had no previous interest in the subject area.

Many communities within London have been hit very hard by the recession, and it has led to spiralling levels of unemployment. Generally people have less money at the end of the month, and subsequently cannot afford extra activities. This comes at a time when more people are being encouraged to get involved with first aid, yet offered no financial aid. Setting up a free course once a month gives people the opportunity to gain certification, and who knows it could lead to more lives being saved.

Traditionally these types of courses have been housed in a classroom environment. However this is by no means law, and therefore the classroom could be replicated in an outside setting. The plan is to help those who are unemployed, but the scheme may catch people who would have had no previous interest in the subject area. It is thought that the outside setting will invigorate people and open their minds up to learning new skills. The companies policy of making first aid training courses practical based could also add to the interest level.

The initiative was first created by Tom Casserly, founder of the company in 2009. Luckily he was on hand to give us an insight into the details of the plan:

“In simple terms more people need an introduction to first aid in the hope to save lives. In times of plenty the government may have been able to subsidize training for the unemployed. However this will not be the case for many years so the hope is that initiatives like this will provide opportunity. We can only offer a small number of these courses as we have a specific business model. However we feel this is a first, and its more than most companies will be doing”.

Train Aid Offers Free AED Training On Open 3 Day First Aid Course

Train Aid Ltd has decided to offer Free AED training on their open first aid at work courses. The new scheme applies to the monthly open course, which is held in London and enables individuals and businesses to meet the requirements of the HSE. The reason behind the move is to enable more people to get access to the machines that can restart a cardiac arrest victim’s heart. Despite being accessible in a whole host of public locations many people haven’t had any specific training related to the use of the machines.

AED’s are one of the first tools a paramedic will use when treating a victim of cardiac arrest. In light of this the science behind them was simplified and transferred from the professional domain into the hands of the public. This means that any person in a public location can grab the machine and treat a heart attack victim whilst awaiting the arrival of the emergency services. This is crucial as for every minute that passes without an AED the casualty’s chance of survival drops by 10%.

At the present time there is no law requiring business or individuals to have undertaken AED training. This may well change, but currently training providers often include the training as an expensive add on to regular first aid at work courses. Train Aid Ltd has decided to lead the way on this front and offer the lifesaving course completely free as part of their regular courses. Training coordinator Billy Casserley was on hand to explain the reasons behind the move:

“The AED is the only known way of treating a cardiac arrest victim, yet not enough people know how to use them. In fact not many people even know they exist despite being present at all major rail stations, airport terminals and leisure centres. The time has come to get more people trained, which will ultimately save more lives”.

In the future it is likely that AED training will become part of the 3 day first aid coursesyllabus. Whilst awaiting the changes Train Aid Ltd is looking to set a precedent by enabling candidates to access the training free of charge.
