St George’s New Summer Language Options

Specialist language school St George International (SGI) have this month introduced new flexible course structures and pricing options for those looking to learn a language. These new opportunities complement the school’s existing high quality choices for learning English and foreign languages.

For those with busy schedules to fit their language lessons around, SGI’s new nine hour course option enables students to study as and when they are able to take a lesson. In addition, St George International’s UK-wide range of native-speaking teachers means that students can enjoy learning at a broad range of locations. This means for those hoping to relocate to Spain and preparing by taking a Spanish course London is not the only place to learn.

This summer, learning a language for professional, academic or leisure purposes is also good value. Private one-to-one lessons are available at £28.00+VAT per hour for all learners. With SGI learners could practice their local language skills before going on holiday to many parts of Europe, from Germany to Portugal. After taking one of SGI’s French courses London, one of their main centres, is well-placed to take the Eurostar to France to practice with the locals. For trips further afield, courses are also taught in key global languages, from Arabic through to Mandarin Chinese.

Finally, St George International has also developed a selection of group offers so that those needing a little extra motivation can study with a friend or colleague. With this offer, students can study with one other friend and a teacher for£15.00+VAT per hour. With three learners and a teacher, prices are £12.00+VAT each!

These offers make it a good time to begin researching opportunities for one-to-one or group language lessons to fit around any lifestyle. Beginning to study a new language as a student, in time for the new autumn term, could be valuable for enhancing future career prospects. Professionals, many of whom are currently facing difficult job prospects and rising living costs, will also benefit from additional skills within their budget and timetable.

Radio UIC By Students For Students

London is the world’s centre of English language learning with thousands of international students moving to the capital each and every year. To cater for their needs there are many language schools available for students to study at across the city.

But with so much choice available and many schools offering very similar programmes and facilities, it can be difficult for individuals to decide where to study. For this reason, students are now searching for something extra special.

One such school is London UIC. Here students get the chance to get involved with and produce a radio programme. The innovative method of learning helps to inform students, provides extra English listening activities and can prove to be a lot more fun and engaging than standard textbook lessons.

Many students and teachers get the chance to contribute to the station and those studying the Communication Station course, which won the British Council ELTons award 2011 for Innovation in Language Teaching, focus a lesson per week on the station.

There are also podcasts made for students to download from the school’s official website. These audio guides give students the low-down on living and travelling in London and hugely inspire individuals to make the most of the stay whilst also improve their listening abilities. English natives can also study foreign languages at the school and soon there will be podcasts available in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese and Chinese.

As well as offering students innovative multimedia platforms with which to improve their English language learning, London UIC still offers everything that you would expect from a modern and well-regarded school. To understand more about what is on offer and what to expect, log on to the website for a range of informative videos about both the language school London and Ascot campuses.

Avant Assessment CEO Mike Patterson has been appointed to lead U.S. delegates to the International Standards Organization TC232/WG2 (learning services for non-formal education and training technical committee workgroup focused on language learning services) meetings in Beijing, China this week.

Workgroup delegates to ISO TC232/WG2 represent over a dozen countries and have the task of ensuring that the views and positions of their country are known and understood by the committee. The goal of the international committee is to develop consensus and an international standard for providers of language learning services in the non-formal sector (outside the mainstream school and higher education curriculum).

Mike and Avant Vice President of Research and Assessment, Paul Tucker, have participated in three previous international meetings and have been delegates to the workgroup since its inception. Both bring critical experience to the U.S. delegation having served on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Testing Committee which is a network of Federal, academic, private business and NGO language specialists and managers who share a common goal of improving the nation’s capacity to learn, teach and effectively use foreign languages in the national interests.

Additionally, Paul Tucker served as the Lead Writer for the ASTM Standards of Practice for language education and now chairs the testing subcommittee (F43.04) which is looking at differentiating standards per testing purpose. Mike Patterson served as a committee member at the U.S. Department of Education National Educational Technology Planning Sessions in 2003 and 2004, and has been actively involved with SIIA, CoSN, SIF, Software Association of Oregon and other industry organizations where he has served as a presenter and panelist at national and regional conferences.

“It is an honor to represent the interests of our country in the field of language acquisition” says Mike Patterson, Avant’s CEO. “As a country, we are a leader in developing thorough and rigorous standards on language training. It is important to the future of global communication that international standards meet or exceed those same standards. I look forward to these experiences working with colleagues from around the world on common goals. They are as rewarding as they are educational and challenging.”

Education Loan Source Expands TuitionFlex Financing Program for San Francisco School of Massage

Education Loan Source, Inc. (ELS), the nation’s leader in education financing administration and services, is proud to announce the expansion of their partnership with San Francisco School of Massage (SFSM). SFSM originally launched the TuitionFlexSM program in March, 2010 and the school is now expanding the program to include a choice of longer payment plan terms.

TuitionFlexSM provides students with the option to extend tuition payments over a specified period of time instead of paying cash up-front for an academic program. “With new state regulations slated to take effect at the end of this year, increasing the number of required course hours in the fields of massage and bodywork, SFSM wants to be in position to assist students with affordability,” said Gary Witt, Chief Executive Officer of SFSM. “Expanding the TuitionFlex program furthers SFSM’s commitment to make education accessible to students who are already managing a variety of personal and professional responsibilities.”

As program administrator, ELS offers comprehensive support for the program and, as a result, the program requires very little involvement from school officials. From the point of online application all the way through servicing, ELS provides a seamless flow for both students and school. ELS programs are in compliance with federal and state Truth-in-Lending disclosures and are of particular assistance to schools looking to meet 90/10 regulations.

“We are excited about expanding our partnership with ELS,” said Rocky Hall, Director of Operations. “We appreciate the expertise that ELS has earned in the educational finance arena and have benefited by their commitment to enhance TuitionFlex and bring innovation to the space.”

“Given the dynamic nature of the higher education industry, it is a pleasure to deliver financing solutions that can be easily tailored as requirements change,” said Jacklyn Garcia-Schneider, Director, Client Services for ELS. “Knowing that the expanded program will enable more students to get their education at SFSM – one of the most respected massage and bodywork schools in the nation – is especially rewarding .”

UIC University Foundation Course

UIC offers to students from more than 50 countries around the world the chance to master the global language of our times, English. Located at the heart of the British capital, the school’s facilities help foreign students to familiarise themselves with London and explore the ins and outs of Europe’s most vibrant city.

UIC University Foundation Course
Apart from language courses for students and professionals, UIC has formed a joint foundation programme with St Mary’s University of Twickenham for students aiming to study at British universities. Based in idyllic Twickenham, the foundation course allows participants to study a wide variety of academic subjects, partly taught by St Mary’s academic staff. It’s an intensive 36 weeks programme, starting in September and finishing in June, whereas students equipped with a sufficient level of English may start in January. Finally, students who wish to complete an undergraduate degree at St Mary’s University are able to carry 30 first year credits, which is about 25% of the credits requirement for an academic year.

Prepare for English Language Exams
Students whose mother tongue is not English and aim to take an undergraduate course in an English-speaking country are required to sit an exam proving their ability to speak English fluently, such as IELTS and TOEFL. Tedious as it may be, the process of delving into the realm of a foreign language can be extremely rewarding and even fascinating, particularly when it comes along with a combination of listening, speaking, reading and writing assessments. Among the most prestigious exams that a student can prepare for at UIC London are IELTS, TOEIC and Cambridge First Certificate.

A City of Miracles and Wonders
A bustling city such as London offers a unique experience to students from all over the world, allowing them to explore not only their skills in English, but also their ability to communicate with their peers in a language different than their mother tongue and assimilate themselves in a new and challenging environment. It’s not rare for students and professionals to be asked to live and work with people from different backgrounds and cultures. In other words, for students aiming to boost their language skills in an English school London can be another type of school, bigger in size and full of temptations. Besides, UIC is located in Mortimer Road at central London, just a stone’s throw from the shopping frenzy of Oxford Circus and the characteristically British serenity of Regent Park.

Education Loan Source Launches TuitionFlexPLUS Financing Program for International Education Corporation

Education Loan Source, Inc. (ELS), the nation’s leader in education financing administration and services, is proud to announce the launch of the TuitionFlexPLUSSM financing program at International Education Corporation (IEC) campuses nationwide.

“TuitionFlex PLUS is a win-win for both students and school,” explains Ena Hull, Vice President of Financial Planning. “Students have the ability to make affordable monthly paymen ts, while the school yields the benefits of an innovative note selling program that generates a more immediate cash flow. Through TuitionFlexPLUS, we now strike the perfect balance between offering an affordable plan to students while realizing improved cash flow for the school.”

“IEC is excited to launch a finance program that offers an online application process, high touch servicing and ultimately, a high collectability track record. These were all key factors in our decision to select ELS,” Ena continued. “As an additional benefit, the program will help with our 90/10 compliance.” As program administrator, ELS ensures that participating schools remain in compliance with federal and state Truth-in-Lending disclosure requirements. In addition, each program is customized to follow a school’s preferred internal process.

Payment plans allow a student the option to make payments over a specified term rather than paying cash up front for an academic program. Traditional payment plans require the school to hold the note on their books, while receiving funds as the student makes payments. The challenge with these plans is balancing the need to keep costs low for student enrollment with the need to infuse operating capital into the school. With TuitionFlexPLUS, schools establish unique rates and terms and can elect to implement a credit check to mitigate risk. As an additional option, they can sell a portion of their portfolio.

According to Dennis Christich, VP Sales for ELS, “ TuitionFlexPLUS allows IEC to focus on helping students become successful within the allied health, business, technology and automotive industries, while ELS supports both students and school staff with financing. The drive to excel is evident in all that IEC does and launching this financing option for students is yet another sign of that commitment being put into action.”

For more information on the TuitionFlexPLUS program, call ELS at (888) 335-6261.

Dore Frances, Ph.D. Celebrates A Decade Of Helping Families in Crisis With Troubled Teens at Horizon Family Solutions

In 2001 Dore Frances created Horizon Family Solutions, LLC (H.F.S.) with the intention to assist and educate parents during a time of crisis with their teenager. This year Horizon Family Solutions is celebrating over a decade of assisting families.

During these ten years, Dore Frances has been asked for her opinion by Seventeen Magazine and interviewed by The Monterey Herald in California.

She also spoke at the Boise High school in Idaho about the dangers of drugs and answered some very tough questions from both parents and teens.

Not seeking publicity Dore Frances has shared information with attorneys, counselors, doctors, families, health care providers, and other professionals through her two newsletters and the most recent addition of RMG Teen Alerts. She also has several e-Book publications in process that will assist families in crisis who are needing to make a placement decision and are not able to travel ahead of time.

Recently Dore Frances was accepted into the American Evaluation Association (A.E.A.) and will be conducting in-depth evaluations of programs and schools that are assisting families in raising today’s teens. Frances knows personally the anguish parent’s experience when their home is being invaded by an out of control teen, who themselves is in crisis.

She too choose to place her own daughter in a residential therapeutic treatment center over 10 year ago. Neither she nor her daughter have any regrets.

Since that time Dore Frances has learned a lot about the benefits and concerns of programs and schools that have invaded the Internet. It is always painful when needing to make a decision about placing your child in the care of others, usually far from home. You want a quick fix, and have your child reunited with you as soon as possible. However, it does take time. The crisis did not happen overnight and you will not come back from it overnight.

Dore Frances knows first hand that there are excellent addiction treatment centers, clinical programs, eating disorder programs, learning disability schools, residential treatment centers and wilderness programs all across the United States.

She has visited hundreds of programs and schools in Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho and many other states. It is more important than ever that these programs and schools do the very best they can in the areas they specialize in and that parents, as well as programs, remember that one size does not fit all.

Co-operative Revolutionises Green Education

An extensive, multi-channel green education programme that will revolutionise the way young people learn about sustainable and healthy living was unveiled this month by The Co-operative.

From now, all schools are invited to join The Co-operative’s Green Schools Revolution by registering at www.greenschools.coop, which will give them free online access to a wide range of cross-curricular classroom resources and activities, as well as a number of other valuable benefits for the first schools to sign up.

It will give young people the tools to inspire change in their schools, homes and local communities and teachers will have access to materials covering key stages 1 to 4, including lesson plans, topic webs, assembly presentations, classroom activities, debating topics, quizzes and competitions.

Schools will also be able to arrange free visits to The Co-operative’s own wind farm to see renewable energy in action and to one of seven Co-operative Farms to see how food grows and how to cook it. They will also be able to take advantage of support and free materials to set up walking buses at their schools.

In addition, a series of Green Schools Revolution events will take place across the UK from the autumn, including activity days at regional science and discovery centres, funded by The Co-operative.

Written by educational specialists, Green Schools Revolution is available free to all UK schools and incorporates many areas of the national curriculum for 5 to 16 year olds, including science, geography, literacy, citizenship, PSHE, maths, design and technology and art. St George International – Catering for All Students

With thousands of foreign language students arriving in England this spring and summer, there can be no doubt each person will be propelled by different motives. Whether it is for future employment or pure enjoyment, each student is unique and individual. However, many language schools struggle to accommodate for this, by offering strict schedules and rigid learning structures. This is not the case with St George International.

As the city gears up for the royal wedding, St George International has adopted a schedule to allow its students to get the most out of this exciting and historic moment. The staff at the school have created a social programme for the entire week of the wedding, including guided visits and excursions to several famous royal locations. Students can go to see St Paul’s Cathedral, Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, the Changing of the Guard, and the Queen’s Gallery. There is also a weekend excursion to Windsor Castle, where the Queen sometimes resides.

The theme is continued into the students’ learning diary. For those taking intensive courses, the afternoon sessions will be based on the theme of the royals and the wedding. Students will learn English through the discussion of, and engagement with, a key moment in British history.

The school prides itself on offering a number of things to its students:

The range of classes on offer at SGI schools will cater for a variety of students’ demands. These include General English, Business English, Academic English and private tuition. So, if you want to go on to do a job that requires English, socialise with native speakers, or study at a UK school or university, then St George International is likely to have a course to suit you.

SGI staff understand that for many students learning a language is one of many requirements that demand their time and attention. Therefore, SGI has a variety of helpful services to aid its students. For example, evening classes are offered to those who have a job during the daytime. Online learning and home tuition services reflect the priority the school places upon the tailoring of study for its students. Although when you think of French lessons London may not be the first place that comes to mind, St George International offers an excellent array of modern language courses at all its teaching centres.

Forget The Coins, Mugs And T-Shirts – UIC Offers A Commemorative Royal Wedding Language Course

It did not take long from the royal wedding announcement in November last year for commemorative mugs to appear, coins to be issued and T-shirts to be printed. On 29 April, when Prince William lifts the veil to kiss Kate, who will reveal her hair to be worn down according to latest reports, several lucky English students will be rather pleased they chose to bypass the usual array of tawdry trinkets and book themselves on a commemorative royal-wedding-themed English language course at UIC instead. Once the mug is chipped, the T-shirt faded and the coin lost behind the sofa, the benefits of this innovative course will remain.

The language school announced this innovative General English course earlier this year in February, and it has proved extremely popular with language students wishing to study English in the UK. Its popularity proves once again the hold over foreign visitors’ imaginations the royal family continues to have.

The course is just one of many highly innovative approaches to language learning UIC offers. The school’s reputation for innovation and excellence in language teaching was recognised earlier this year by the British Council. In February it was announced that UIC’s Communication Station course had won a British Council’s prestigious ELTon award. The course allows students to make and broadcast their own radio show as a focus for their language learning.

The royal wedding course promises to be equally as innovative and motivating for students. The course will help language learners to improve their General English while learning about the British royal family’s history and weddings. From Henry VIII’s break from the Catholic Church to secure a divorce to the all-too-public collapse of Charles and Di’s marriage, the course will use newspapers, history books and multimedia resources to use the social and cultural history of the royals as a stimulus for English language development. Classroom-based learning will be mixed with visits to important royal sites such as St Paul’s, Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and Hampton Court. For students wanting to study a royal-themed English course London is the only place to do it.

ESL Language Schools – Summer 2011

ESL language schools’ announcement of new summer coursework is kicking off the spring and summer months with a little bit of French. Although spring is in full swing, ESL schools are looking toward the summer and preparing for their new coursework in Paris, Lyon and Montreux. Their programmes take into account not only the lesson plans but the living situation of their students, their proximity to major French and Swiss tourist sites and entertainment when not in class.

In Paris, their programme for young adults promises to entertain and teach teens in a relaxed and productive environment. For a teen studying in the summer months this kind of teaching philosophy is essential. Summer time is an important time for many students to refocus after an intense year of study. This programme allows them to do so without also subjecting them to the sometimes inevitable ‘brain drain’ of the summer. This is also termed summer learning loss and summarises what happens to student’s learning when they spend a summer holiday without any exposure to academics.

Learning French, or any language, is not just the pastime of children and teens. Adults can also seek out language course. ESL offers a couple programmes for these adults, one of which is in Montreux. This programme has benefited for the year-old studio accommodations offered as an alternative for couples and independent travellers. These studios have their own kitchen and bathroom and are not a home stay like is traditionally offered.

In its second year is the 50+ programme offered in Lyon, France. This programme allows people to experience French culture in one of the major cities in France. The school is conveniently located within the city near major tourist attractions and shopping centres.

Taking French courses in France make it easy to rapidly learn the language through immersion. Students are faced with real-life applications of their coursework and can ask pointed questions about how to use the language effectively in their day to day life. ESL is careful to construct their programmes so that their students are exposed to the famous sites and important areas near the cities where they study. Thus these programmes operate as both a holiday and a learning experience for the adventurous language learner. If you want a language summer school France can offer no better to adults and teens than ESL language schools.

Education Loan Source Launches TuitionFlex Financing Program for Bellus Academy

Education Loan Source, Inc. (ELS), the nation’s leader in education financing administration and services, is proud to announce the launch of the TuitionFlex SM financing program at four (4) Bellus Academy campuses located in the states of California and Kansas.

TuitionFlex SM provides students with the option to extend tuition payments over a specified period of time instead of paying cash up-front for an academic program. “We are pleased to offer flexible payment options as it allows students to get started on the education they need to enter a new career sooner,” said Lynelle Lynch, President of Bellus Academy. “With funding options being extremely limited in today’s environment, the opportunity to stretch payments over time makes a big difference for our students.”

ESL French Summer Camps for Juniors and Teens

ESL is proud to present some of the most prestigious French language programmes in Europe, hosted in several summer camps around the continent. All programmes are specially designed for juniors and teens who want to hone their skills in the French language.

What’s a ‘Bisou’ in French?

Ecole Suisse des Langues (ESL) is a leading provider of language summer camps for juniors from 8 to 14 years old and for teens between 13 and 17 years old. The French language is taught at several ESL summer camps in France, Germany and Switzerland. Besides, all programmes are adapted to the skills and existing knowledge of juniors and teenagers. Therefore, young students can explore the French language and use it in practice in their everyday life in order to communicate with their peers. For example, they can learn how to pronounce the word ‘bisou’, which is the french word for a kiss and in plural is a nice way to say goodbye!

Perhaps the best place for a student to practice his/her French in the summer is the cosmopolitan Cote d’Azur. Apart from that, there is also a french language school near Paris, and another one in the French-speaking Swiss city of Montreux. However, learning French in one of ESL’s camps is by no means a boring experience. There are amazing sport activities as well, such as horse riding, mini golf, sailing and mountain bike, and students can even learn everything they want to know about the world-famous french cuisine or take dance classes. As for the courses, students can choose between standard and intensive ones, depending on their age, level of fluency and ambition for a summer simply magnifique! Programmes start as early as in mid-April and run up to the end of October in the case of the study programme for teens in Leysin. All other programmes are available from the end of June 2011 up to mid-September. They last from 1 up to 4 weeks, with an additional week as an option.

French Summer Camps for Students over 50

Apart from programmes for juniors and teens, ESL recently launched a number of summer programmes for students over 50. Mature students can opt for the summer camp based in the headquarters of ESL in Montreux. Alternatively, they can study french in france, in a study centre based in Lyon.

Swami Balendu criticizes Baba Ramdev in an open letter to him

In one of his latest blog posts Swami Balendu, who describes himself as ‘former guru’, addresses Baba Ramdev, the popular Indian yoga teacher, business owner and politician. In the direct manner which prevails in his complete blog, Swami Balendu elaborates why he and, in his opinion, millions of Indian people, have doubts on who Baba Ramdev actually is and what his aims are.

“People don’t understand him anymore. Is he a Sanyasi ? A yoga teacher? Is he a businessman? Or is he a politician?” asks the author of the letter, Swami Balendu, who in his blog post gives examples of Ramdev’s contradictive behavior.

“There are people doubting his own financial situation, questioning his political direction and agenda and even asking for investigations into his past. He accuses the Congress party of corruption while he himself gives donations to the opposition party, the BJP. Publicly however he has nothing to do with that party. Why does he hide his support? Another loud question by many is: Are you still a Sanyasi, Baba Ramdev?”

Before Baba Ramdev’s planned protest on the Ramleela Ground in Delhi on the 23 rd March, Swami Balendu explains the Baba in detail how he himself has created such questions in people’s minds. Swami Balendus himself has, after more than three years of isolated meditation in a cave, left the life and profession of a guru. He explains this change with the feeling that ‘nobody is higher or lower than anybody else’. He is now a married businessman and additionally running children charity projects in Vrindavan , India .

This is not the first blog entry in his ‘online diary’ in which Swami Balendu questions the new and old gurus of India . In his outspoken manner he doesn’t mince matters when he writes about the magic tricks of Sathya Sai Baba, the escapades of the ‘Sex Swami’ Nithyananda, the sexual harassment and rape charges against Jagadguru Kripalu and his disciple Prakashananda or the strange religious habits of the devotees of ISKCON.

His letter to Baba Ramdev is the latest of such attempts to reveal more about hidden activities and sometimes even unlawful actions of India ‘s so-called religious leaders and gurus. When asked about his aim, Swami Balendu tells: ‘I hope when I write about them, it helps people to realize their own responsibilities and helps them go their own ways instead of blindly following a guru who is only seeking power and wealth using the pretext of religion and God!’

Benefits to Learning a Language Abroad

When planning out careers, many people choose to study a subject or path that coincides directly with what they aspire to be, such as an engineer, teacher or journalist. Children often grow up believing that as students, they should be focused solely on learning about what it is they have envisioned for themselves as careers. What people should not forget about, and what they should also value, is learning languages.

In today’s global economy and connected world, it is near imperative to speak at least two languages proficiently. Many individuals entering the job market or starting careers are prepared for the global marketplace and have studied to the point of fluency a couple or more languages. Many employers look to see whether a potential candidate is bilingual. While it might not rule some individuals out of certain jobs, those who boast bilingualism, or are trilingual or more, often see wage or salary boosts because of their language skills. Many people, however, find it difficult to learn a new language. For those in Europe, St George International is a language school that offers a variety of language courses.

Through St George International, students can have the opportunity to study foreign languages one-on-one with a tutor or in an academic class setting, all of which can take place in the European country where the language is spoken. This way, students can learn the language in an academic setting, and then go out in the city to practice what they are learning while on the street or with friends. This immersion reinforces what students are learning and gives them a full, well-rounded learning environment. All SGI teachers, across all European countries where they are based, are native speakers. With SGI, students can learn Spanish in Spain, French in France, Italian and Italy and German in Germany. Cities where St George International operates partner schools include Barcelona, Salamanca, Madrid, Malaga, Montpellier, Nice, Paris, Vichy, Florence, Milan, Rome, Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. Students can take St Georges French courses or St Georges Spanish courses.
