Free E-Book Helps University Students Learn about APA Style, Chicago Style and MLA Style

StudyStudent.com has published a free e-book, entitled, “Writing Styles for College Students” to help college and university students learn how to master the three most popular (and sometimes troublesome) writing styles — APA Style, Chicago (Turabian) Style and MLA Style.

APA Style, Chicago Style and MLA Style

Any student who has worked on a dissertation, thesis or graduate paper knows the difficulties in following a specific writing style. Students need to follow many writing and formatting rules as they write their papers. These difficulties include using correct margins, font style and size, pagination, headings and footers; as well as knowing how to cite and format sources, and which specific pages to include.

Retired university professor Peter Gallagher wrote, “Writing Styles for College Students” to condense the most commonly asked questions about APA Style, Chicago Style, and MLA Style. Gallagher shows students how to apply these writing styles as they work on their formal papers. He provides answers, guidance, and advice on:

1. How to start a thesis, dissertation or formal paper;

2. How to cite references for both online and offline sources;

3. How to format a paper in APA Style, Chicago Style, or MLA Style;

4. What “display” pages to include — and what pages not to include;

5. When to use in-text citations, footnotes, endnotes as well as a bibliography page or reference list page;

6. When to use Arabic or Roman numerals to identify chapters, headings, parts, etc.;

7. How to present tables, figures, and illustrations;

8. expert writing advice regarding writing style and grammar usage; and so on.

“Many students have trouble starting their papers because they focus too much on how to setup their papers, instead of focusing on the actual writing,” said Gallagher.

“Writing Styles for College Students” separates each writing style into short chapters, and helps students begin writing their papers immediately while guiding them along with the most essential formatting and writing rules.

Students can download a free copy of “Writing Styles for College Students” at www.StudyStudent.com, a free website that helps students learn about writing a dissertation, thesis paper or term paper.

Quest CE Releases 2010 Financial Advisor Education Survey Results

Quest CE recently invited over 30,000 financial advisors to participate in their annual survey on advisor’s perceptions of value-added insurance and professional designation continuing education (CE).

The survey focused on advisors’ opinions on the insurance and designation continuing education (CE) sessions offered in their branch offices by wholesalers and of the wholesalers themselves.

Results showed 88% of the advisors who responded make time to attend continuing education sessions wholesalers present at their office, and 89% agreed those CE presentations were relevant and informative.

The survey asked whether the advisor was more likely to attend an instructor-led continuing education session than a product update meeting held by a wholesaler. 79% of the respondents said they were more likely to attend a CE session, further illustrating the fact that wholesalers who offer CE in branch offices can dramatically increase contacts and strengthen relationships with advisors.

82% of the respondents said they would be interested in receiving continuing education voucher cards from wholesalers who do not offer a “live” CE session in their office.

Final survey results are available for download at:

ENDORSEMENTS:

PASTOR BOB COY (Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale)

“Certain things in the Christian life are non-negotiable, and studying the Bible is one of them. Every believer, regardless of the spiritual season they’re in, must have a regular routine that gets them engaged in God’s Word. But while the “must” to study is universal, the “method” isn’t. What works well for some doesn’t work at all for others. We’ve been wired differently and learn in different ways, which is why this is such a relevant and important book. With 40 different methods of studying the Bible, there’s something here for everyone. No matter who you are or how you’re wired to learn, you’re going to find a key in these pages that will unlock the riches of God’s Word in your life.”

PASTOR BRIAN BRODERSON (Host of the Back to Basics Radio Show)

“Anything that will help Christian people get more into the word and more out of the word is bound to be a great blessing. This book will do just that. Andy has done a fantastic job of laying out numerous options for Bible Study. I’m sure there’s a method here that will be helpful for most everyone who is serious about growing in the Lord through his word.”

Drug Education For Children

Narconon provides free drug education for children at Monterey County Fair. In an effort to educate as many people as possible about the harmful effects of drugs, Narconon Northern California strives to have a presence in community settings where people congregate. Last week Narconon Vista Bay had a booth at the Monterey County Fair, which is one of the largest in the state. This provided the team an opportunity to share information and to mingle with members of the community.

The Narconon booth included a prize wheel and gifts. During the extent of the fair over 4000 pieces of printed drug education material was placed in the hands of children. Parents and other members of the community expressed appreciation of the positive and proactive approach that Narconon provides in drug education and prevention.

Drug abuse has been a cause of concern for parents and the nation for generations. Rather than simply focusing on ‘just saying no’, Narconon drug education focuses on realistic aspects of drug use and abuse. The real facts are presented without the use of scare tactics. When kids have the entire picture of what drugs can do to their life they are more likely to make the right decision. Humor is a huge part of the program for kids’ presentations and trainings.

These training programs are in place in schools across the country as they assist in meeting several criteria for the US Department of Education, Title IV, (Safe & Drug Free School) funds. In order to keep the presentations and training materials up to date and current, trends of youth substance abuse are tracked and monitored and modifications are made as needed. Being proactive results in prevention of drug use, which is the true goal of drug education.

The Narconon Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment, which has more than a 70% success rate, is a drug-free method for rehabilitation. The program actually consists of two stages or components: detoxification and rehabilitation itself.

“Narconon Drug Rehab” has successfully graduated thousands of individuals that have gone on to live stable, productive, and drug-free lives. “Narconon Prescription Drug Treatment” focuses on eliminating drug abuse through drug education, information and rehabilitation. Preventative efforts focus on proactive presentations and training materials provided by professionals in a realistic way.

The new books address the TEKS that will be tested in 2010 with new content and reading passages. In areas where students need extra instructional support, Measuring Up lessons can be selected for in-depth standards coverage. For quick and easy test review 3-6 weeks prior to the TAKS, Measuring Up Express lessons are the perfect tool. The short lessons provide a brief review of the standards and relevant vocabulary, as well as test practice in the format of the current TAKS. The Measuring Up Express books also include a correlation to the new reading TEKS to help teachers and students as they transition to the new standards.

“Peoples Education has worked tirelessly to align the TEKS with the Measuring Up Express Reading worktexts,” remarked Elizabeth Firmin Birdwell, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Duncanville ISD. “I think teachers will enjoy the product and they will find that it is cognitively aligned.”

The Measuring Up Express program includes free Formative Assessments as blackline masters so teachers can monitor student progress at the end of every chapter. Two free Diagnostic Practice Tests for each student allow teachers to diagnose student weaknesses and prescribe review lessons in the Measuring Up Express OR Measuring Up worktexts. This diagnose-prescribe-instruct model in the Measuring Up program has helped over 3 million Texas students improve test scores.

Henley Business School Has Launched A New Customer Management Safari As Part Of Its Executive Education Programme

Aimed at business leaders who wish to re-address the way their organisation responds to – and engages with – their customers, this programme concentrates on deepening an organisation’s understanding of its current and future customers. It also considers the impact of organisational climate on customer satisfaction and retention and the important role of people in the value creation process.

The Customer Management Safari will help successful participants understand and use a range of techniques to discover deep, rare, meaningful insights about customers that can form the basis of competitive advantage.
