Henley Business School welcomes talented scholarship winner onto its world-class Full Time MBA course

Henley Business School has welcomed a scholarship winner on to this year’s Full Time Henley MBA, a world-ranked business management course for experienced professionals.

Mia Carbon won the 2008 Evening Standard/Henley Business School MBA Scholarship. She joined her fellow participants on the fully booked MBA course on 19 January and can look forward to an intensive MBA course that will significantly enhance and develop her leadership skills.

Mia, currently acting head veterinarian at Beaumont Animal Hospital, the busy teaching hospital attached to the Royal Veterinary College in Camden, said: “Winning this scholarship is so fantastic. With my MBA, in the longer term I’d like to work with the World Health Organisation (WHO), particularly around their public health agenda. My clinical training gives me an understanding of this, but an MBA will help me input into the strategies to tackle these issues. I’d like to be involved in policy development and response.”

Mia joins PC Dan Stork Banks as a successful Henley MBA scholarship winner. PC Stork Banks won The Times/Henley Business School Executive MBA Scholarship in 2008 and started on the Henley Executive MBA course in September 2008. The part time Executive MBA course is for experienced professionals looking to complete their MBA alongside full time employment, and significantly enhance their leadership and management skills.

Dan said: “I realised that an MBA would be a catalyst for my career and give me the ability to achieve the kind of influence I wanted… (since starting in September) it has helped me to align my management priorities and vision of neighbourhood policing in Hampshire.”

There is only one Henley MBA but it can be achieved through a number of modes – the Distance Learning MBA, the Executive MBA, and theFull Time MBA. The Henley MBA is a leading business management course that is ranked number one in the world based on student quality, faculty quality and potential to network.

Everblue Training Institute has announced that it will begin offering its highly sought after Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Exam Preparation courses in Hartford, CT.

Everblue Training Institute, a leading green education provider, has announced that it will begin offering its highly sought after Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Exam Preparation courses in Hartford, CT. The US Green Building Council’s LEED certification for buildings is the gold standard for green buildings in the United States and around the world. As of January 1, 2009, all commercial building construction in the state of Connecticut worth $5 million or more must meet LEED-Silver standards. LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED AP) are recognized experts in LEED that can navigate the green building process and help buildings attain LEED Certification.

As green building goes mainstream, professionals from all backgrounds are seeking the coveted LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) title by taking the US Green Building Council’s LEEP AP Exam. The exam, however, has a notoriously low pass rate and is scheduled to double in length after March 31, 2009 from two to four hours. With a staff experienced in both green building and test-preparation, Everblue Training Institute has developed exam preparation classes designed both to inform students about the basics of LEED and to help them pass the exam.

This is Everblue’s first LEED course offering in Connecticut. “This is the next logical step after having so much success in New York and Boston,” said Chris Boggiano, co-founder of Everblue. After an overwhelming initial response, Everblue’s LEED Exam courses are now available in Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Hartford, Irvine, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Portland, Raleigh, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Seattle, and Washington, DC. The company plans to continue expanding its offerings into other major US markets in throughout 2009 and will begin offering LEED Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED O&M) Exam Prep courses in the spring of 2009 as the new exam becomes available.

Henley Business School Has Retained Its Top World Rankings For Both Its Executive MBA And Full-Time MBA Courses

Henley Business School, in separate MBA ranking reports by the Financial Times on executive MBAs and by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) on full-time MBAs, has remained at the top of several categories vital to successful students.

In the Financial Times Executive MBA Rankings, Henley was rated overall in the top 5 in the UK, top 15 in Europe and top 50 globally. For career progression it was rated number 1 in the UK and 5 in the world, with salary increase and attracting women onto the courses also significant results.

In the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) Full-Time MBA Rankings, Henley was rated as number 1 in the world for faculty and student quality, personal development and educational experience, potential to network and in the breadth of its alumni network.

Professor Christopher Bones, Dean, said: “This provides external testimony to many of those aspects of our MBA programmes of which we are most proud… we retain some great ranking positions in an increasingly competitive business school market. The team are working hard already to ensure we get even further up the rankings for 2009. The benefits that come from our merger with The University of Reading will help to strengthen our position.”

Earlier this year, Henley – then Henley Management College – also received the top score for student rating of programme content in the EIU’s first ranking of distance learning MBA courses.

College Football Players Awarded With Tuition Scholarship And A Rolex Watch

The BCS College football rankings are quickly gaining mainstream media attention, so much so that the NCAA now allows Rolex watches to be awarded to Heisman Trophy contenders such as Tim Tebow of the University of Florida,Chase Daniel at the University of Missouri, and Dennis Dixon at the University of Oregon.

The prestigious Davey O’Brien award, named after the famed TCU (Texas Christian University) football player, includes a $10,000 tuition scholarship and a Rolex watch. Tim Tebow was the winner in 2007 and former winners include Troy Smith of Ohio State University, Vince Young of the University of Texas, and Jason White of Oklahoma University. This year’s contenders will likely include Graham Harrell of undefeated Texas Tech University (TTU), Colt McCoy of the University of Texas (UT), and Mark Sanchez of the University of Southern California (USC).

This article can be viewed in its entirety at the MJ Rolex Watch Blog:http://www.melrosejewelers.com/rolex-watch-blog/rolex-college-football-bcs-university-of-florida-university-of-southern-california-university-of-missouri-tim-tebow-graham-harrell/

The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback award, in its own words, “recognizes champions on the field..and encourages promising athletes’ academic and career success through scholarships and support.” So what exactly is this “support”? In Tim Tebow’s case the scholarship was $10,000 and the “support” was an engraved trophy and a Rolexwatch! In a time where both Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo were accused of accepting gifts while playing college sports should we really be giving college football players Rolexwatches?

The NCAA and BCS have been under a lot of heat for using the BCS bowl series (Rose Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Sugar Bowl, etc.) as a way to generate more tv advertising revenue and ticket sales versus using a traditional playoff system like in the NFL. Pete Carroll, head coach of USC, is furious about this as his USC Trojans went undefeated several years back, only to not make it to the BCS Championship college football game. Joe Paterno, head coach of Penn State University, and Charlie Weis, head coach of Notre Dame University have also spoken out about this. So does giving out Rolex watches as gifts to players only fuel the fire?

Ultimately, it may just be that a Rolex watch, in particular, is really the only appropriate gift in this instance. The Davey O’brien award, for example, is designed to commend a player for his leadership, accuracy, and enduring character. No other watch brand butRolex is so devoted towards it accuracy and quality of its product. In fact, almost all other watch brands have resorted to using generic watch movements, over the years, whereas Rolex still uses hand-made movements after nearly 100 years of manufacturing. Rolex even donated a significant amount of money to Oklahoma State University, another BCS Championship contender, to help develop out a watch-making school at OSU and Rolex is the only watch brand that gives away 100% of its annual profits to charity every year, essentially operating the company like a non-profit. These ideals fit hand in hand with those of the BCS and NCAA and the Davey O’Brien award.

After all, can we really be that upset with Tim Tebow receiving a Rolex? Tim Tebowcould have joined the NFL last year but stayed with the Florida Gators to try and take them to a SEC and BCS championship. In addition, he has made missionary trips to the Philippines, visiting schools, churches, and hospitals to help the poor and disabled find hope in their lives. Religious beliefs aside, it seems like he is indeed a selfless person and, if anyone deserves a Rolex because of his character, it is none other than Tim Tebow of the BCS Championship-contending University of Florida Gators.

Bigmouthmedia reveal that the majority of recent Scottish university graduates feel that higher education is failing to adequately prepare leavers for life in the real world and opportunities in emerging industries

Bigmouthmedia has revealed that the majority of recent Scottish university graduates feel that higher education should do more to connect students to opportunities in emerging industries and that universities are failing to adequately prepare leavers for life in the real world.

According to a wrap up of 2008 graduate intelligence, harvested by bigmouthmedia from a series of recruitment events, the majority of Scotland’s class of 2008 believed that the education system is not properly aiding the transition from student life. Some 56% of the recent graduates polled believed that university had not sufficiently prepared them for life in the business world.

The research revealed a worrying lack of awareness about opportunities in 21st Century industries. Over 46.3% of those surveyed said they knew little about opportunities in digital marketing and felt that universities should help increase awareness of such emerging industries.

Some 39% also believed they should have been told more about the search marketing sector during their time in higher education.

Respondents revealed a tendency to use online media to supplement gaps in the curriculum. Some 89% said that they had learned more about search engine optimisation and online marketing reading a range of industry blogs such as Search Engine Land and Search Engine Watch.

The research also revealed that a career in search marketing is beginning to appeal to university leavers from disciplines not typically attracted to the sector. While 24.4% of the recent graduates enquiring about a career in the industry had marketing/advertising degrees and 29.3% had been studying ICT/Computing, the clear majority – 46.3% – had studied unrelated subjects.

The results indicated that this broadening attraction could in part be due to the perception of the digital marketing as a ‘hot’ industry, with an overwhelming 80% stating that they believed the sector offered a more glamorous career than television marketing.

The graduate groups questioned also revealed a preference for remaining North of the border after leaving university. Some 95% of the graduates questioned said they would prefer to pursue a high-tech or marketing career in Scotland if possible.

UIC Offers Online Health Informatics Master’s Degree For Health Care Technology Professionals UIC Offers Online Health Informatics Masters Degree For Health Care Technology Professionals

The Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) began offering a fully online Master of Science in Health Informatics degree in fall 2007, and in just one year enrollment has grown 107 percent, from 32 students to 86 students.

The 45-credit hour program prepares students to shape the cutting-edge technology and processes that are revolutionizing the health care industry. It is one of only three online master’s degree programs to be approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).

“This is a program that has great value for health care industry professionals,” said Charlotte (Toby) Tate, dean of the College of Applied Health Sciences. “As the industry continues to move forward to paperless medical, financial and insurance records, it will take well-trained and knowledgeable professionals to develop, implement, and maintain systems to store and manage the information.”

Designed for working professionals who wish to excel in the rapidly-evolving health care industry, this Master’s degree can be completed in as little as 18 months without interrupting the student’s work schedule.

Students receive instruction from permanent, industry-experienced UIC professors rather than instructors who are contracted for short-term assignments, common in some online educational forums. Notably, the program meets the terms of all existing policies, procedures, deadlines and regulations of the University of Illinois at Chicago, giving students a prestigious graduate degree supported by a world-class, research-intensive university.

Blending a technical foundation with coursework covering current clinical trends, government regulations, and health care-specific best management practices, UIC’s curriculum equips students with the analytical and managerial expertise sought after in this dynamic field. The UIC health informatics program was the first in the country to focus not just on technology, but also on the social and organizational factors that often determine whether a technology implementation will be successful in a health care institution.

“Students enter the program to either enhance their current careers or transition into new, more challenging fields,” said associate dean and program director Larry Pawola. “Depending on their work experience, graduates are prepared for a wide range of roles in mid- to high-level management in the health care information setting. Our graduates become chief security officers, systems or application analysts, project managers and IT department directors, just to name a few.”

Alumni of UIC’s health informatics programs (online and classroom) are at the forefront of the industry with employers that include KPMG International, the American Hospital Association, Cerner Corporation, UnitedHealthcare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and numerous hospital and health provider organizations.

With 25,000 students, 15 colleges and research funded at over $332 million, the University of Illinois at Chicago is the largest university in the Chicago area. Located in the Illinois Medical District, just west of Chicago’s Loop, UIC is a vital part of the educational, technological and cultural fabric of the city. According to U.S. News & World Report, UIC is one of the most diverse and affordable universities in the nation. UIC is a “Best Buy,” accordingly to Barron’s Best Buys in College Education.

The Kid Whisperers Are Helping Kids Discover Their True Potential And Gift Within

The Kid Whisperers Ask The Obama Family To Give a TV Address This Holiday Season That Empowers Kids to Rise Above the Failing Educational System

Entrepreneurs, Sue Woodward and daughter, Wendy Garrido, BA Psychology and Economics, University of Chicago are The Kid Whisperers, helping kids discover their true potential.

In 2007, they founded North Star Family Matters Magazine, the only magazine dedicated to the emotional health of kids and families. Now they have written a television presentation using their trademark system, Engage Aloud™ Questions, and are asking the Obamas to deliver this message to the children of the world.

Woodward says, “Now is the time in history for every child to hear that their success and well-being are the most important item on the national agenda. We help kids discover their innate potential and their right to ask for their needs to be met. The Obama family could be the most empowering messengers to remind kids what they’re capable of.”

The plan includes a script for a TV address and a network of volunteers to follow-up and work with children via Skype. Garrido states, “Rather than waiting for the educational system to change, we empower children to rise above the system and recognize their potential and gift within. The fact is that within every child is an enthusiastic learner. The problem is that most kids don’t believe they’re smart.”

Kids come into the world motivated to learn. It’s our job to keep that love of learning alive because no kid wants to be a failure. In just a short amount of time The Kid Whisperers get to the root of the problem, consulting and working with kids to let them figure out their own answers.

As the following demonstrates, The fcat is wee cn reed no mttaer waht the wrods lok lik or in waht oredr the ltteres are in. So raednig is aoubt mroe tahn jsut phnoics.

“Learning is about the brain figuring things out, in reading and in life, and it happens in its own unique way. We can’t tell a kid how to ride a bike. We can offer support, but ultimately they have to be motivated to get on the bike and figure it out. When it comes to school, our job is to give them the belief that they can and will figure it out.”

The latest brain research shows that how we feel about ourselves in the world might be the biggest factor in addictive behavior. The future of treating drug and alcohol addiction is to empower kids at a young age with the truth that they have a gift to bring to the world.

Parents, relatives, and kids can write a letter of support to The Kid Whisperers, which will be forwarded on to the Obamas, asking them to give the gift of empowerment to all children this holiday season.

Corporate Training That Pays Off

Picture this. The corporate culture is “Do more with less.” You are overwhelmed due to the additional workload. Morale is down. You receive an invitation to yet another team building program, and you think, “I know how to collaborate. I have too much work to attend another team building event.” Your boss notes in the invitation, “We need to work better together. Synergy drives results.” You arrive at the team building event, known as “bicycle building.” Everyone breaks into groups and collaborates to build 10 bicycles. You realize the advantage of interacting with your colleagues in a relaxed environment, a much needed break from the daily grind. Then just as the program is wrapping up, 10 less fortunate children from the community come running in, to receive their first bicycles ever. At first you could hear a pin drop. Then everyone cheered. Some even had a tear in their eye. All of a sudden, the whole meaning of team building changed from “Yeah, I know how to collaborate” to “WOW… We really made a difference in these children’s lives.” At the same time, the Executives collaborated for a more productive work environment.

Feeling part of a bigger purpose is one of the secrets to Employee engagement. Participants were pleased to see the “fruits of their labor” and see the big picture as a whole. If Employees are continually shown the big picture/purpose of their workload, they feel appreciated, engaged, and loyal. The 2007 Global Workforce Study found that 1 in 5 workers today is engaged, so how do we educate tomorrow’s leaders to increase these engagement levels? Most Leaders’ #1 priority is results. Have they tried implementing a balanced approach of results and people? Now more than ever, having “People Smarts” is critical for the success of our future Leaders.

To sign up for a team building workshop, please call 1-866-923-4692, or peruse one of the 50 professional development course descriptions at www.corporatetrendsetters.com.

Momentum Christian Church’s Lead Minister, Dan Smith, Will Be Preaching A Relevant Sermon Series On Sex In Today’s Culture October 19th And 26th, 2008

Lead Minister, Dan Smith, at Momentum Christian Church, will be speaking for two weeks on sex, and practical insights from the Bible on this subject, which churches often find taboo. The sermon series, titled “Bringin’ Sexy Back” will run October 19th and 26th.

“It’s no secret that America is saturated with sexuality, but most churches are pretty silent about the issue,” says Smith. “However, the Bible has a lot of really practical insights for people who live in a culture like ours.”

This sermon series won’t feature some lame, naive preacher yelling at people about their past mistakes because — to some degree — everyone has messed up in this area. It will be a lot of relevant, heart-to-heart teaching that will help us better understand why God created such a powerful magic.

The church and its staff have rated the sermons PG-12, but they encourage parents to bring middle school and high school students.

Momentum Christian Church meets at the Cinemark Theatre in Valley View at 10am on Sunday mornings. The service is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Momentum designates itself as “a church for people who hate going to church.” They use rock music, funny videos, and relevant sermons to attract people who have previously thought church was boring and irrelevant.

Smith is a self-proclaimed “storyteller-preacher, comedy-writer, and lead minister of Momentum.” His comedy has been featured on CNN, VH-1, The New York Times, Glenn Beck, and Yahoo! In 2007, he was recognized by Cleveland Magazine as one of Cleveland’s “Most Interesting People.” Some say he’s mildly funny. His Mom thinks he’s very funny. At the very least, he cracks himself up.

Momentum is a non-denominational church located near Cleveland, OH. To learn more, please visit http://www.momentumchurch.com, or to schedule an interview with Dan Smith, please call Angie Dyer at 440-759-0663 or email angiedyer@yahoo.com.

Cybershala.com is a new educational website that brings, via easy to access virtual classrooms, advanced international curriculums like Singapore Math to children all across the United States

You see it on the news time and time again – American students are falling behind the rest of the world in Mathematics, Science, and other subjects. In fact, a recent study published Nov 14, 2007 by the American Institutes for Research puts American children far behind their foreign peers in regards to math and science.

It was this very notion that led to the birth of a new virtual learning website dedicated to bringing US students the best educational curriculums the world has to offer.

Launching earlier this month, Cybershala.com is the brainchild of Ripujeet Sharma, an engineer who found his own children were having trouble with math. Being a world traveler, he did some research, and found a few interesting notions. “In my research and studying other curriculums, I found out there was a huge ‘learning gap’ in what was being taught, and what could be learned” says Sharma “In essence, we’re doing it backwards, and that’s why we are ranking so low.”

Sharma took the next logical step and created a substantial website that acts as an online learning portal. His website offers an international curriculum via online virtual classes, and is aimed primarily at home schooled children and public school students who need extra help. The first offering is what his own children had trouble with – math.

“The website is starting out by offering what is called ‘Singapore Math’” commented an excited Sharma “and Singapore Math is simply a name for the Math Curriculum they teach to students in Singapore, whom have consistently ranked amongst the highest in the world.”

Indeed, Singapore Math has gained worldwide respect, and differs from other math curriculums because it utilizes a visual approach to problem-solving instead of solely a memory-based one.

Sharma also built the educational and online learning website to be, in his words, “effective, accessible, and affordable. We have the best instructors, an affordable price of $10 per hour, and the benefit of teaching the best curriculum around.”

The classes themselves are also different, exclaims Sharma: “The classes differ from traditional online classes in that there is real interaction. We have textbooks and workbooks that we provide, and small 6-person virtual classes with face-to-face live video. The child is in their home, but they can see and hear the teacher, and vice-versa, in real time.”

“In other words, it’s a real class” adds Sharma.

While the website has launched with the focus on k-12 math, Sharma also plans to add science and technology based curriculums in the near future, making cybershala.com a well-rounded answer to some of America’s most troubling academic questions.

About Cybershala.com
Cybershala.com inc. is an online educational portal dedicated to bringing the best of international curriculum to the US, and to close the “education gap” between what is taught, and what can be learned. Their first curriculum is the highly successful “Singapore Math”, which they offer via virtual classrooms.

Smarter Toddler Nursery and Preschool in New York City has announced a ban on the phrase Terrible Twos

Smarter Toddler Nursery and Preschool in New York City has announced a ban on the phrase Terrible Two’s insisting that the term encourages and excuses bad behavior in Toddlers. “A two year old who people refer to as a Terrible Two may need either more physical activity, more stimulating academic challenges or simply more 1-on-1 attention,” said Jessica Collins, spokesperson for the school, “At Smarter Toddler we don’t believe in the phrase Terrible Two’s. What we do believe in is giving a child a combination of attention and special activities that help to keep their minds off of the need to begin what some would describe as bad behavior. Smarter Toddler does that by providing children with a warm, loving, fun environment that focuses on the artistic, cultural and social development of each child”.

The teachers and management of Smarter Toddler would like the support of not onlyparents with children at their center but also parents, guardians and teachers everywhere to not use the term Terrible Two’s.

“Educators and psychologists have proved that negative statements are more likely to encourage negative behavior in not only children but adults also,” said Ms. Collins. “Call Johnny a bad boy and your likely to get a bad boy. Instead of saying Terrible Two, using the term Terrific Two is much more positive and likely to encourage and expect good behavior in a child”.

About Smarter Toddler:
Smarter Toddler is a Daycare Center and Preschool on Manhattan’s Upper West Side founded by parents of gifted toddlers who wanted a progressive preschool with an advanced arts-based curriculum that their own children could benefit from, hence the name. It has long been proven that a child’s brain is like a dry sponge capable of absorbing knowledge at a much faster rate than an adult’s. As a result, at Smarter Toddler you’re never too young to begin learning. Since the firstSmarter Toddler location at 89th street became popular a new location at 55th street and 9th avenue near Lincoln Center is planned for September 2007.
