Finally it is Teacher Appreciation Week

“Teacher appreciation makes the world of education go around.” Helen Peters. Whether you are 8 or 18 years old, you live in South Korea or in Sweden, you are black or you are white. Everyone around the world has at least one teacher who has inspired them and motivated them to keep on going and never give up. The only thing we can give back is showing our appreciation for their work and effort. This appreciation makes teachers aware of what their efforts mean to us and keeps them doing the great things they do. Students from different country celebrate this in their own way, with their own and unique habits and on different dates.

Finally it is Teacher Appreciation Week

Today starts the week during which students of the US can express their gratefulness for what their teachers have taught them. Today starts the week where for once the teachers don’t give, but the students do. Today starts the week that entire classes work together to surprise their teachers. Today starts the week that makes teachers feel good about what they do. Today starts the week that makes the world of education go around. Today starts Teacher Appreciation Week.

Until May 7th, teachers will walk out of their homes with an even bigger smile on their face than usual. Because they now that this is the week that they get recognition for all the effort they put into this job. “Teachers appreciate being appreciated, for teacher appreciation is their highest award.” - William Prince. They work so hard by teaching us how to write, read and count. They treat us as their own children and from today on, we can show them that we treat them as our second parents. Although we give them headaches and make them upset all the time, there is one week to make it all up and make sure that they don’t forget why they do so much for us.

During this week and especially on Tuesday, everyone does their best to be as creative as possible and surprise their teachers with the most amazing and original ideas. On teacher appreciation info you can find a lot of initiatives that were done in the past and different tips. One tip is to keep in mind which teachers you are surprising. Try to know as much as possible about them and use this to create a present. In this way, your present means much more to those particular teachers and gets a personal touch. Your teachers are happy and so are you, because for once, you managed to give them something that means a lot and not the other way around.

‘Don’t Mind The English Weather, It’s Unpredictable’

Planning to travel around the United Kingdom this Spring and are clueless what kind of weather to pack for? Travel guides and tour operators will advise you to prepare for all eventualities. So pack an umbrella or a raincoat, a sweater and shawl to brace against chilly winds if you are heading towards Scotland or the seaside, and some summery cotton clothes for an impromptu barbecue or a picnic in the meadows.

'Don't Mind The English Weather, It's Unpredictable'

“It’s funny that there are all the jokes made about how when two Englishmen meet, they ease into a conversation about the weather. Well, that’s because the weather is the most unpredictable and fluctuating element in English life”, says Graham Chestner, a tour operator in Bristol who has to tackle a lot of weather queries all year around.

In spring, summer and autumn are wonderful seasons to be travelling around Britain. Travel advisors always warn tourists to remember to carry something warm to wear in the evenings, even during the summer months. After a very hot day, when the sun finally sets, temperatures are likely to plummet in the evening. If you aren’t a native English speaker, then spring is the perfect time to head to England to learn English. One of the short English course UK will help make your vacation even more enjoyable. Or if you fancy pursuing an education in England, then make good use of the extended English summer to sign up for pre-sessional programmes UK that will help you understand and speak English better. What better excuse to enjoy an extended summer in England than to combine it with some useful education?

Parallel Project Training Receives Excellent Feedback And 100% Pass Rate On Its First Project Management Training Courses

Parallel Project Training, an innovative new specialist training provider in APM project management training and APMP certification, has received outstanding feedback from customers who attended the company’s first training courses in March and April. The exam pass rate on the March course was 100%, all students passed.

The courses were a mixture of three and five day events led by a fully qualified and experienced tutor offering students an integrated approach to their learning with a wide range of pre-course study options. The programmes have been designed to follow the same structure as the APMP syllabus and offer students the opportunity to enhance their skills and best practice knowledge in project management in order to pass the APMP exam. Students are also coached on how to apply the APM principles to their own projects. Students are able to confidently sit the APM Professional exam with a clear understanding of what is required to pass. They also take away a thorough understanding of the benefits of deploying project management within an organisation.

All students receive a high quality APMP exam study guide prior to the course start date, which allows them to prepare and coordinate their study plans. The study guide explains the APM Body of Knowledge in simple steps, including sample exam questions and helpful templates. The course is also broken down into seven APM accredited e-learning modules which integrate seamlessly with the study guide as well as MP3 podcasts that cover all the important topics included in the APMP Exam, which students must sit on the last day of the course.

The courses cost from £935, which is probably the best value around “a properly keen price” said one student. Others, commenting on what they liked about the course said: “I learnt more in the first morning than in the entire six days of the previous course when I failed the exam”. Other comments included praise for the knowledgeable instructor with vast experience and that the blended e-learning option was especially useful when used alongside the study guide. They also liked a clear set of objectives for the course and a focus on results. “I really liked the podcasts, they’re really useful for the car” said one very busy student.

Bullfights ‘Sold Out’ At The Feria De Abril

Weeks before some of the biggest bullfights are to take place in the Andalusian capital of Seville, the tickets for the majority of them have sold out. Organisers of the Feria de Abril 2010 – the annual April Fair of Seville – claim that this year they are expecting a massive surge in tourists.

Bullfights 'Sold Out' At The Feria De Abril

Bullfighting is the national sport of Spain, and its popularity across the world has been on the rise in the past decade. In the Mediterranean, the practice of sacrificing bulls dates back to prehistoric times. The bullfights of Seville are world famous, with matadors from across Spain and even from foreign shores descending on this Mediterranean holiday spot. The April Fair, the biggest draw of Seville’s tourist calendar, is renowned as the showcase for some of the finest bullfighting traditions in Spain. “The April Fair is traditionally held two weeks after Easter Sunday, and gives tourists a taste of Spanish hospitality at its best. We are normally booked months in advance, and there is hardly a single room available during this time”, says Sevillan hotelier Pablo Casteillos.

The bullfights have for centuries been the main attraction of the Feria de Abril. “If you have a choice of where to see bullfights in Spain, make sure it is in either Seville or Madrid. The Sevillanos are among the most passionate in the country”, claims Jesus Chavez, a bullfighting enthusiast from Mexico.

The Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, one of the oldest buildings in Sevilla, continues the venue for some of the most epic bullfights of the Spanish matador’s lore. The construction of this building is said to have begun as far back as the mid eighteenth century, and is one of the most popular landmarks in Seville. Unusally for a bullring, however, the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza is oval shaped, instead of the traditional circular ring. Along with Ronda, Seville is considered as the “nursery” where modern bullfighting as it is performed today was developed. In earlier centuries, bullfighting was undertaken by matadors on horseback.

Hotel registers show that its not just Spaniards who will be attending the April Fair – many tourists are travelling in from as far as Japan and Australia. Some of them are already in Spain to study Spanish abroad and grasp the flavour and flow of the language well in time for the April Fair. The popularity of bullfights have ensured that Spanish study abroad has become all the rage.

Searches Increase for Healthcare Management Degrees on Emagister.net

The primary focus this year for most businesses including healthcare facilities is cost control. Business professionals holding Healthcare Management degrees are needed to help control costs, run cost efficient facilities, improve patient care and create profitable businesses. Additional variables such as looming healthcare reforms, aging baby boomers and the growing population all contribute to the need for highly educated professionals. Recent searches on emagister.net for healthcare management and Healthcare Administration degrees confirm the trend for increased job market opportunities available to those with the right skills and training.

Even with a slacking economy where most businesses have lost capital and job positions, the healthcare industry has managed to expand. The most successful healthcare managers are business oriented, natural leaders, well organized and most importantly sympathetic individuals with a desire to help people. Healthcare facilities recognize the need for skilled workers to fill these management roles and offer one of the most competitive salary rates on the market. The result is the rise in popularity for degrees specializing in healthcare management and administration. Emagister.net offers both on-campus and online degrees from Universities such as Kaplan University, Globe University and Ashford University who are benefitting from the current trend. Online degrees make earning your healthcare management degree more attainable than ever, especially for those individuals who for personal obligations such as family and work would otherwise be unable to complete their degree.

Emagister.net was launched in 2009 as an education resource for individuals looking to better themselves through education. Run by experts in the education industry, Emagister is currently serving 11 countries with 3 more planned launches in the second quarter of 2010. Emagister is well on its way of becoming the World’s Education Pathfinder.

ICMA Centre To Partner CISI And FINRA On Diploma In Investment Compliance

The ICMA Centre at the Henley Business School, The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) of the US have announced that they have joined forces to support and enhance education, training and certification in financial compliance.

ICMA Centre To Partner CISI And FINRA On Diploma In Investment Compliance

The CISI is the largest and most widely respected professional body for those who work in the securities and investment industry in the UK and abroad. It has developed a suite of well recognised and supported programmes centered around product knowledge and regulation to support practitioners in the financial services industry.

Since 2006, the ICMA Centre and FINRA have developed and offered a highly regarded Diploma in Capital Markets Regulation and Compliance aimed at mid-level securities professionals. With the development of the CISI’s Diploma in Investment Compliance, the industry was faced with two seperately recognised routes to certification, and it was agreed that, by joining forces, the parties can work together to enhance the professional credentials of capital market practitioners in the UK better.

The agreement will mean that those who have already achieved the Diploma in Capital Markets Regulation and Compliance will become members of the CISI and those with a partially completed qualification will receive appropiate exemptions from the jointly supported Diploma in Investment Compliance. In addition, the ICMA Centre will work with the CISI to deliver advanced certification for those who have completed the Diploma in Investment Compliance and whose needs are for expanded coverage of topics required by senior compliance staff on financial institutions. Additional details will be published at cisi.org in the future.

In announcing this new collaboration, Simon Culhane, Chartered FCSI and CEO of the CISI said: “We are very pleased to be working with the ICMA Centre and FINRA – two highly respected institutions that have a long history in capital markets education and training.”

ICMA Centre Announced As Top European School In Financial Trading Competition

The ICMA Centre has proved that it is one of the top finance schools in the world, coming joint 4th out of a field of 44 international schools in the 2010 Rotman International Trading Competition held at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. This result is in line with the ICMA Centre’s track record of finishing in the top 10, and usually top 5, in all previous Rotman competitions.

ICMA Centre Announced As Top European School In Financial Trading Competition

The team of four traders – Ioannis Oikonomou, Dimitris Korovilas, Aditya Pandit and Juan Cepeda Murcia – beat a veritable who’s who of corporate finance schools to take joint fourth place. Top place went to MIT while the closest European university was Luiss University which came 30th, and the next UK school was CASS Business School which was ranked in 33rd place.

The competition involved a series of different assessed cases that required trading either in an electronic environment or in the trading pit. Competitors had to trade a variety of financial instruments including corporate bonds, energy futures, stocks that were simultaneously traded in different markets, and futures on a stock index.

“As recent events in world markets have shown only too clearly, skill and competence in trading and analysis are critical both to success and to survival in modern markets. This result shows that our graduates are among the best in the world and that the time and effort invested in our dealing rooms and our trading simulation software (ICTrader) was well spent – to the benefit of us and future members of the finance professions,” said Dr Michael Smith, dealing room director at the ICMA Centre.

“Making it to the top of the competition requires a very diverse set of skills. One has to be numerical enough to create the appropriate pricing models, and strategic enough to find the most efficient ways to trade,” commented Ioannis.

“Being in the trading pit during the quantitative outcry session and trading against 87 people from top schools, some of them with significant trading experience, was like being thrown into a pool of sharks,” added Dimitris.

More Schools Adopt Co-Operative Trust Model

The growing acceptance that the co-operative model offers schools a compelling structure was further underlined when the latest tranche of co-operative trust schools was announced.

Fifteen new co-operative trust schools, which offer all stakeholders an opportunity to be involved in the running of their school, become legal entities today (1 April) bringing the total throughout the country to more than 50.

The new co-operative schools include a Leeds based federation of eight schools with another cluster in South Bristol. Individual school trusts are also being established in Stoke-on-Trent, Oldham, Bradford, High Wycombe and Peterborough.

Anyone with an interest in the school including students, teachers, parents, employers and the local community will be encouraged to become members of the Trust, making the trust a community based mutual.

The members will elect representatives to a school stakeholder forum, which will meet on a regular basis, in order to ensure that those in positions of responsibility remain sensitive to the needs, views and aspirations of the different groups.

This co-operative mutual model is based on open membership, equal democratic participation (one member, one vote) and clear accountability of those in charge to those for whom services are provided is very much in fashion at the present time.

Russell Gill, Head of Membership at The Co-operative Group, said: “The co-operative model, which is very much in vogue with the mainstream political parties, allows all stakeholders greater participation in the running of the school and our values, that date back more than 150 years, offer schools an ethos which we believe can lead to higher standards, aspirations and achievements.”

Local Sixth Formers Give A Lesson In Money Management

A group of economics students from St Aidan’s & St John Fisher’s Associated Sixth Form in Harrogate, took up a challenge thrown down by Yorkshire-based Engage Mutual to help improve local young children’s understanding of saving on Thursday 25 February.

The sixth formers developed and delivered a morning of fun and interactive lessons around saving and money to a Year Two pupil group comprising 73 delighted six and seven year olds, from Oatlands Infant School in Harrogate.

Head at Oatlands Infant School, Elizabeth Robson, commented:

“This project has been an exciting way of giving our children an introduction to the importance of saving and working with money- both vital life skills. It has been great for them to have this delivered by the Sixth Form students in such a fun and interesting manner.”

Part of a wider initiative to improve financial capability, the sixth formers have been improving their own money knowledge, having recently completed a course in their free time run by Engage Mutual at their offices. The course concludes with a challenge for the sixth formers to take an element of what they have learned and communicate it to a younger audience in a fun and interesting way.

Engage Mutual Chief Executive, Andrew Haigh said:

“Where better to start helping families and future generations secure their financial futures, than with children? Working with schools is an incredibly valuable and informative experience for us. We always learn a great deal from the clarity and simplicity that young people can bring to communicating quite complex financial issues.”

Safetyshop Reveal the Winning School of Their School Safety Sign Competition

Towards the end of 2009 Safetyshop, the UK’s number 1 safety sign manufacturer and supplier of over 30,000 safety solutions, launched a contest open to schools up and down the country to design a new safety sign aimed at school children.

The first prize was recently awarded to the EPRU unit located within the grounds of Whitefield Community Primary School, Manchester, closely followed by St John Fisher Catholic Primary School in Middlesex.

Safetyshop is delighted with the safety themes that developed from the competition. The best entries represented health and safety issues ranging from hand hygiene, playground safety, healthy eating to email and internet safety.

The Safetyshop panel, tasked with the difficult job of picking a school sign winner, commented “we were captivated at how creative some designs were and how students demonstrated the importance of safety within their school environment”

Prizes for the EPRU unit are:

• The chance to have their design digitally manufactured into a 300Hx400W mm safety awareness sign and then see it transformed into an interpretation of how the design could be manufactured into a prohibition safety sign
• £150 worth of vouchers to spend on health and safety equipment at Safetyshop
• 51 piece media mix art set
• WH Smith gift voucher
• 99 piece first response first aid kit
• Two “understanding safety signs” wall charts
• “First aid for children” wall chart

Safetyshop, still a British manufacturer of safety signs, is entering into its 40th year of trading and wanted to do something special to mark this achievement. One of Safetyshop’s core beliefs is that anyone who gets involved in health and safety practice is safer than those who don’t.

Safetyshop also believes that safety education at an early age can be developed into a safety culture that young people can carry forward into their working lives. A safety sign competition seemed like the logical opportunity to begin helping support young people think about and identify hazards in their school.

The Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) is currently campaigning to have a similar initiative included in the UK’s national curriculum and Safetyshop fully supports this young people’s campaign.

Promethean Helps School Host Premiere Of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid

Promethean, a global leader in interactive education technology solutions, presented Riverside elementary School in Fairfax County, Virginia with an ActivClassroom after the school emerged triumphant over 5,000 other schools competing in a nationwide contest to mark the gala premiere of the motion picture Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Riverside submitted an impressive proposal to convert its auditorium/gymnasium into a movie theater, and promised that its students would generate Hollywood-style excitement for the unveiling of the long-awaited film based on the first of Jeff Kinney’s best-selling books. The prize consisted of an ActivClassroom including an ActivBoard interactive whiteboard, a set of 32 ActivExpressions, ActivSlate and ActivSound and the opportunity to hold the gala premiere of the film.

The premiere event was held in conjunction with the National Education Association’s (NEA) “Read Across America” program, which focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources; the NEA has designated March as National Reading Month. NEA also sponsored the contest, along with 20th Century Fox, School Library Journal, and publisher Harry N. Abrams Inc.

The Riverside Elementary safety patrol had special “security” duties on the red carpet. Also providing key assistance was WRES-TV, where some Riverside pupils – and budding news anchors – served as part of the morning news team.

F r o m its origins as a series of online cartoons, Diary of a Wimpy Kid exploded onto the pop culture scene when Jeff Kinney’s first “novel in cartoons” was published in 2007. Diary of a Wimpy Kid spent almost three years on The New York Times’ children’s best-seller list, and was translated into 33 languages. The book captured the imaginations of an army of formerly “reluctant readers,” and launched countless video reviews, social networking fan groups, and parties celebrating the release of each new Wimpy Kid book.

The World’s First Ever ‘Drowsy Driving’ Educational Handbook Published

People are finally being told the truth about the dangers of “drowsy driving”, largely thanks to the efforts of sleep safety researcher and campaigner Martin Jenkins.

Jenkins’s educational campaign has this week taken a major step forward with the World-wide publication of his drowsy driving handbook, AKILLA® “In the blink of an eye”, on Amazon Kindle.

Described by Jenkins as a “passport to survival”, In the blink of an eye presents readers with the facts on drowsy driving and what can and should be done to address this hazard to road users.

“In the blink of an eye” aims to fill the knowledge gap by telling you the must knows about ‘drowsy driving’, says Jenkins.

“It identifies the causes of drowsy driving – when, where and why you are most at risk to drowsy driving such as afternoon driving, after a plane flight or fast food or while on medication. It then tells you what are the best ways for you to avoid drowsy driving and the steps you can take to minimise your risk of being a drowsy driver.

“This book dispels some drowsy driving myths. It tells you what things won’t revive you when you are feeling drowsy.”

While drowsy driving has long been recognised in some countries as a major killer on the roads, it has been largely ignored or downplayed by transport authorities and policymakers.

The attitude of complacency and unwillingness to face up to the reality of drowsy driving prompted Jenkins to launch his campaign and to write the book to wake up all road-users to the dangers of drowsy driving and educate them on how to recognise and minimise drowsy driving risk factors.

While learning will always be the first consideration, prospective students will also be keen to know that the rest of their London experience will be a positive one. The college will help arrange accommodation for its students, with various options available. Student residences and house or flat shares are popular with those wanting to live with other students. Those who’d like to experience authentic London life will want to opt for the homestay scheme, which allows students to benefit from the language and cultural knowledge of a local family by renting a room in their home. There is a particularly good choice of accommodation for students who want to spend summer in London, as there are many halls of residence that are available only in summer.

About Malvern college: Malvern House is one of many language schools London. It runs a very wide choice of courses at its three centrally located sites in Piccadilly, Kings Cross and Bloomsbury. This English school London, provides not only academic education but also a choice of housing and social events.

ICMA Centre Launches New Portfolio Simulation Platform

The International Capital Market Association (ICMA) Centre has announced the launch of a new Portfolio Simulation Platfrom.

ICMA Centre Launches New Portfolio Simulation Platform

The new web-based ICMA Centre portfolio simulation platform that has been developed by StockTrak Inc and customised by Dr George Alexandridis allows students to trade securities in most major markets around the world in real time and build and manage large portfolios.

MSc and BSc students at the ICMA Centre that take the portfolio management course are involved in an assessed group project where they have to build and evaluate a hypothetical portfolio with securities of their choice using real time data.

Dr George Alexandridis, Lecturer in Finance at the ICMA Centre said: “Our custom made portfolio simulation platform and other simulations used in the centre can really help us bridge the gap between theory and practice and progress the students’ learning experience to a higher level. Students can apply the tools they learn in the class and improve their investment skills. It is very much like real-life on-line trading platform that not only allows students to get some hands-on experience but also ignites a spirit of competition in the class room. Moreover, it helps improve students’ investment awareness and potential in securing better jobs after graduation”

The MSc Portfolio Management challenge runs between January and April by Professor Jacques Pezier. Each group of students is required to submit a detailed report where they critically explain and justify their trades and profitability compared to appropriate benchmarks. The final winners are determined based on both their final profit and reports. This allows for students to be evaluated on their critical judgment as well as their skills of practically applying what they learn from core courses such as portfolio management and derivative markets.

The ICMA Centre is one of the very few Business Schools in the UK that have adopted similar portfolio simulation platforms that are becoming an essential training tool in business, finance and executive education.
